The main course that was planned, according to the Associated Press’s account, was prime chateaubriand with Maine lobster. Neither main course was served, and the dinner was called off.
What was on the April 25, 2026 menu
Reporting from the Washington Post and the Associated Press agrees on the first course and places guests at it when the program was interrupted. AP also names the planned main course. The table separates what guests were eating from what was only planned.
| Course | Dish | Status at the April 25 dinner | Reported by |
|---|---|---|---|
| First course | Spring pea and burrata salad | Being eaten when the event was interrupted | Washington Post, AP |
| Main course | Prime chateaubriand | Planned; not served | AP |
| Main course | Maine lobster | Planned; not served | AP |
The reporting cited here names only these dishes. It does not describe further courses, so a full course-by-course menu for the April dinner cannot be reconstructed from it.
How reliable is each menu source?
Newspaper reporting
The Washington Post and AP accounts are the strongest support for the menu. They were published contemporaneously and independently agree on the salad. AP’s account is also the only source cited here for the planned chateaubriand and lobster main course.

A post in the r/wine community on Reddit, published after the April event, shows a photographed menu and identifies it as the menu for that Saturday night’s dinner. It is a social media post, not a document issued by the White House Correspondents’ Association. Its dish list is consistent with the news reporting above, but it is not an official record, and the dishes it shows beyond those named in reporting are not independently confirmed. Comments in the same thread about wine, prices or menu details are unverified and are not treated as fact here.

Timeline of the April dinner and the follow-up event
Several separate events are often blended together. The sequence below keeps them apart.
- April 25, 2026: The dinner begins. Guests are eating the first course when the program is interrupted. The main course is not served, and the dinner is called off.
- June 2, 2026: The association announces another dinner for Friday, July 24, 2026, in Washington, D.C., describing enhanced safety measures and new access procedures. WHCA president Weijia Jiang said: “I am proud to announce we will host another dinner to be held in Washington, D.C. on Friday, July 24th.”
- July 21, 2026: In a statement, the association said Washington Hilton staff preserved more than 2,000 unserved meals for donation to local shelters.
- July 24, 2026: The rescheduled dinner was set for this date.
Does the July 24 dinner have the same menu?
The available reporting does not establish that the April menu applied to the July gathering. The July event continued the interrupted program, but that does not show it served the same food. No readable official menu for the July 24 dinner has been identified in the coverage cited here, so readers should not assume the April dishes were repeated.

Who organizes the dinner
The event is run by the White House Correspondents’ Association, a journalists’ organization. It is not a White House state dinner. The association’s dinner page calls the annual dinner “our main source of revenue to finance all of our work,” which it links to its journalism, public education and scholarship programs. That statement is the association’s own description, not an individual’s.

The association’s July 21 statement is the main published detail on the food itself. More than 2,000 meals were preserved and set aside for donation to local shelters rather than discarded. That figure comes from the association’s own statement and has not been independently audited.
