What the evening looked like
The Washington Post described the fashion statements and celebrity attendance as subdued in its April 26, 2025, photo coverage. It singled out actor Jason Isaacs’s all-black ensemble; that specific description should not be generalized to other guests.

The dinner program and its purpose
The White House Correspondents’ Association reported 2,600 attendees. The association said there was no entertainer; the program included a video about White House correspondents, journalism awards, recognition of 30 scholarship winners, a video saluting past presidential attendees, and remarks from WHCA president Eugene Daniels. Daniels told the ballroom, “It’s just us,” according to the association’s official 2025 dinner page.
The dinner is the association’s main source of revenue for its work supporting journalists, public education about the First Amendment and a free press, and scholarships. The Associated Press also framed the 2025 gathering around journalists and the First Amendment, including in its April 27 report. In that coverage, Aldo Beckman Award recipient Alex Thompson said, “We — myself included — missed a lot of this story, and some people trust us less because of it.”
