A January 2024 report attributed to The Hollywood Reporter said Disney+ would not move forward with a second season. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the series at 94% on its critics’ Tomatometer, but that score does not establish why the show was not renewed.
What was cancelled, and what does the 94% score mean?
American Born Chinese is the Disney+ series identified in the cancellation report. The 94% figure refers to Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer, its critics’ score. The same page currently displays an 80% Popcornmeter, its audience measure, and lists one season with a May 2023 season entry. These are the page’s current figures, checked in 2026; ratings can change.

The sources cited here do not establish Disney’s reason for the decision. They do not support claims that the show was cancelled because of low viewership, production costs, or a particular company strategy. A critics’ score and a renewal decision are separate facts; the 94% rating alone does not explain the latter.
