A separate report says an unnamed celebrity watched Reading beat Blackpool 3–2 on 27 April 2024. The accessible listing does not identify that visitor.
Which celebrities support Reading FC?
Reading Today Online named five well-known supporters in a retrospective list published on 28 December 2025. The evidence varies: it includes local connections, public expressions of allegiance, reported historic attendance and involvement in promoting the club. It is not a record of celebrity attendance during the 2023/24 season.
| Name | What the source reports | What that establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Ricky Gervais | Reading native; a fan tribute featuring his David Brent character has appeared at matches. | Local connection and a supporter tribute, not attendance at a specific fixture. |
| Chris Tarrant | Grew up in Reading and has reportedly attended home games over the decades. | Broad historic attendance context, not a confirmed 2023/24 appearance. |
| Simon Gallup | The Cure bassist has publicly shown allegiance to Reading, including by flying a Reading flag at music festivals. | Public support, not match attendance. |
| The Amazons | The Reading band has promoted the club, including kit promotion and a performance on the Purple Turtle stage outside the Select Car Leasing Stadium. | Local support and club promotion; the cited list gives no dates for these activities. |
| Nicholas Hoult | The actor grew up in Berkshire, has expressed fondness for Reading FC and has reportedly attended matches and supported the club online. | A general report of match attendance without a dated appearance tied to 2023/24. |
These claims are from Reading Today Online’s list. The categories are not directly comparable, so they do not support ranking these people by how often they attended games in 2023/24.
Was a celebrity at Reading’s 2023/24 Blackpool match?
An April 2024 news index from Hob Nob Anyone? points to a Chronicle item dated 29 April with the headline “Celebrity spotted in attendance for Reading FC Blackpool win.” Its summary says a celebrity watched Reading’s final-day 3–2 victory over Blackpool on Saturday, 27 April 2024. The accessible listing does not name the person, so the sighting cannot be matched to any of the five supporters above.

The same index reports a season-high crowd of nearly 18,500 for the match. That is match context, not a count of celebrity supporters or sightings.

Broadcaster and writer John Arlott is a documented historical example. The Supporters’ Trust at Reading Hall of Fame describes him as a Reading supporter from the 1920s onward and the first nationally known personality to speak publicly as a fan. It also recounts that he cycled 17 miles from Basingstoke to watch the team at Elm Park. This history predates the 2023/24 season.
