Who is Newcastle United’s most famous fan?
Sting is the clearest short answer: the Premier League’s 16 March 2026 roundup describes the Wallsend-born musician as Newcastle United’s most famous fan and a loyal supporter. That is the league’s editorial choice, not an objective or definitive all-time ranking.
The roundup says Sting had been seen at St James’ Park during an October EFL Cup tie, sitting beside Alan Shearer. It also recalls his account of attending matches during Newcastle’s 1969 Fairs Cup-winning run. The October appearance is reported in the March 2026 article; it should not be read as a newly verified October 2026 sighting.

Newcastle musician Andrew Cushin has also described going to matches from childhood. The anecdote offers a match-going example, not a claim that he ranks among the club’s most famous fans.

Being born in Newcastle, appearing at a match or having a connection to the city does not by itself establish someone as a supporter. The strongest examples are people whose support is explicitly described by a credible source or stated in their own words: Sting in the Premier League’s roundup, and Bay, Casisdead and Donovan in interviews or club coverage. The published lists and profiles provide examples, not a verified complete record.
