Schitt’s Creek is a fictional town, but its streets, shops and motel were built from real places in Southern Ontario. Most of the small-town exteriors were shot in Goodwood, Ontario. The Rosebud Motel exterior is a separate place: the former Hockley Motel in Mono, near Orangeville. Much of the interior work was done in a Toronto-area studio, so a visit will show you the outside of the show’s world, not the sets.
Where the town was shot
Goodwood, a village in the Regional Municipality of Durham, supplied many of the recognizable exteriors. Destination Ontario’s “Schitt’s Creek road trip” guide identifies several Goodwood buildings with specific scenes, and CityNews Toronto reported in its coverage that the village had become a tourist draw because of the series. Those two sources are the basis for the locations below.
The Rosebud Motel is not in Goodwood
The motel that viewers associate with the Rosebud is the former Hockley Motel at 308399 Hockley Road in Mono, near Orangeville. It is roughly a drive away from Goodwood, so plan it as a separate stop. Destination Ontario describes the property as privately owned and reports recent purchase and renovation activity. The sources reviewed do not confirm current guest access, so treat the motel as a place to photograph from the public road, not a place to enter or book.

Which places are visitable
Most of the sites above are working properties, not attractions. Sort your route by the category each stop falls into:
- Operating businesses: Goodwood Mercantile and Annina’s Bakeshop. These are the easiest stops to enjoy as a visitor, provided you are a customer.
- Community facilities: the Goodwood Community Centre and the Goodwood Town Hall listing. Respect events and users.
- Working or private premises: Bob’s Garage and the former Hockley Motel. View these from public space only.
Why your photos won’t match every scene
The Location Managers Guild International, in its 2020 account “Up Schitt’s Creek,” reported that production filmed for about 11 weeks each spring: seven weeks in a studio and four weeks on location. Most interior scenes therefore came from the studio, and no outdoor spot can reproduce them.

Location manager John Smithers described the tourism effect in the same account: “I can only measure this anecdotally, but tourism in the communities we filmed in has increased because people want to see these locations and take pictures with them.” The statement is an observation, not a measured tourism figure, and no reliable visitor count was found in the sources reviewed.
Planning a route
- Start with the Goodwood cluster: Goodwood Mercantile, Bob’s Garage, the Community Centre and the Town Hall listing, plus Annina’s Bakeshop. These sit close together on Goodwood’s main roads.
- Check each business’s hours and any event closures before you set out.
- Add the former Hockley Motel as a separate stop in Mono, near Orangeville. Plan it as a drive-by photo stop.
- Confirm road conditions and parking rules directly with the local municipality or the property before travel.

Do not photograph through windows, enter private property or stage shots in working areas. The sources reviewed did not establish the image licensing for Destination Ontario’s photos, so ask for permission before reusing them.
Daniel Levy, the show’s co-creator, has been reported in CityNews Toronto coverage discussing the town’s connection to small-town life, a theme that helps explain why many visitors come for the streets and businesses rather than a single set.
