It was not filmed in Greece, despite its contemporary Greek-mythology setting: the fictional island of Krete is not the real island of Crete. Spanish locations reported for the series include Málaga, Seville, Cádiz, Almería, Madrid and Valencia.
Was KAOS filmed in Greece?
No. The location reporting consulted says the series was not filmed in Greece. The story reimagines Greek mythology in a fictional contemporary setting, including an island called Krete; that name does not mean the production filmed on Crete. Netflix describes the series as a darkly comedic, contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology on its official title page.
The production’s main base was Spain. A Screen Global Production interview published on 10 September 2024 describes a six-month shoot, predominantly on location in Spain during the second half of 2022, with additional filming in Italy. Executive producer Chris Fry said Spain offered “a really wide variety of locations. Spain has deserts and palaces and busy streets and beaches.”
Where in Spain was KAOS filmed?
Reported Spanish filming locations span several regions, with many in Andalusia. These places provide real-world settings for scenes presented in the series as parts of its imagined world; not every scene or visual detail necessarily corresponds to a single real site.

Seville and Cádiz
Seville’s Plaza de España served as the square for the Olympia Day performance. In Cádiz, Santa María del Mar beach is identified as the beach in the first episode. Both scene matches are reported by location coverage rather than an official shot-by-shot production itinerary.
Málaga and Vélez-Málaga
Málaga represents Heraklion in the series. Reported city locations include Calle Parras, the Pablo Ruiz Picasso promenade, Alameda de Colón, La Palmilla and Lagunillas. The Málaga Film Office’s production record also lists Calle Carretería, Calle Pacífico, Calle Hilera and Paseo del Parque, along with Calle Parras, Palmilla and Alameda de Colón.
Calle Parras has a separate reported filming date: murals were painted there for filming in July 2021 and later removed. That date predates the main six-month shoot described as taking place in the second half of 2022, so the two periods should not be conflated. In nearby Vélez-Málaga, El Ingenio shopping centre is identified as the supermarket setting.
Almería, Madrid and Valencia
In Almería, reported locations include Cabo de Gata, Playa de Torre García and Ermita de Torregarcía, identified as the Chapel of Hera. The former Alfaro restaurant in Tabernas is identified as the Cave. Madrid’s Villalís Palace, Valencia’s Sant Miquel dels Reis monastery and the Cheste Educational Complex are also named as filming sites.

Some scene details require a distinction between a location and what appears on screen: a scene guide reports that built elements were digitally altered and that at least one image of Oman was stock footage. Those images should not be taken as proof that the depicted feature was filmed on location in Spain.
Which locations in Italy appear in the series?
Italy for Movies confirms Italian filming and identifies two sites associated with the show’s Mount Olympus setting:
Rank #4
- Villa d’Este, Tivoli: its gardens and Neptune Fountain are associated with garden shots at the mansion.
- Royal Palace of Caserta: its staircase is associated with mansion interiors.
These scene identifications come from location reporting; they do not establish that every Olympus scene was filmed at either site.
Was KAOS filmed in the United Kingdom?
Italy for Movies lists the United Kingdom among the countries where the series was filmed. The sources consulted do not identify a specific UK site, so there is no location here to name with confidence.

Why did the production choose Spain?
According to the Screen Global Production interview with executive producer Chris Fry, the production considered South Africa, Croatia, Ukraine and Greece before selecting Spain. Fry pointed to the country’s range of environments and production infrastructure; his description of its deserts, palaces, busy streets and beaches helps explain how one principal base could serve the series’ varied settings.
The Málaga Film Office labels its record “Kaos (2022)” and lists local filming locations and service company Fresco Film Services. Netflix’s 2018 announcement initially described a ten-episode order, but Netflix’s current title page presents the released series as eight episodes.
How complete is the filming-location list?
The locations above are reported examples, not a guaranteed, official itinerary of every shot. Scene-by-scene matches rely in part on entertainment location reporting and a location guide that sometimes relays local press; the Málaga Film Office and Italy for Movies provide regional production information. Digital alteration and stock footage can also make an image look like a place that was not filmed as depicted. Check current visitor information directly before planning a trip, since access and opening arrangements can change.
