In the United States, The Rule of Jenny Pen does not appear to have a regular current theatrical run. Its U.S. theatrical release was March 7, 2025, so most viewers should now look for it on streaming services, digital rental and purchase platforms, or physical media rather than current cinema showtimes.
The film is listed through Hulu, AMC+, Shudder, Philo and YouTube TV, with additional AMC+ and Shudder access potentially available through channel bundles. It may also be available to rent or buy digitally from Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Google Play/YouTube and Fandango at Home. Catalogs, prices and availability can change by account and location, so verify the live listing before paying.
Where to stream The Rule of Jenny Pen in the U.S.
The strongest subscription-service listings identified for U.S. viewers are:
- Hulu
- AMC+
- Shudder
- Philo
- YouTube TV
AMC+ and Shudder may also be available through third-party channel bundles, including Apple TV and Amazon channel subscriptions. That can be useful if you already manage your subscriptions through one of those platforms, but the billing arrangement and catalog can differ from subscribing directly.

Disney+ also has an official U.S. title listing in the research used for this guide. That should not be read as a guarantee that every Disney+ subscriber will see the film: availability may depend on the account’s billing country, subscription setup and the platform’s current catalog. Check the title directly in your account.
Streaming availability is not permanent. A film can disappear from one service while remaining available through a channel add-on or a digital storefront. If a search inside one app fails, compare the other services rather than assuming the film is unavailable everywhere.
Can you watch The Rule of Jenny Pen for free?
Possibly, through Kanopy—but not universally. Kanopy access generally depends on a participating public library, university or other eligible institution. You may need a library card, university login or a limited number of monthly viewing credits.
To check:
- Open your public library or university’s Kanopy portal.
- Search for The Rule of Jenny Pen.
- Confirm that your institution currently provides access and that the title is included in its catalog.
Kanopy should therefore be described as a potentially free option for eligible users, not as a free streaming service that every viewer can use.

Where to rent or buy it digitally
If you want to watch immediately without taking out a new subscription, the film is listed on these transactional platforms:
- Amazon Video
- Apple TV Store
- Google Play Movies/YouTube
- Fandango at Home
Choose rent when you expect to watch once within the platform’s rental window. Choose buy if you want the title added to your digital library, subject to the storefront’s licensing and account rules.
Prices are volatile and can vary by platform, format and promotion. The latest indexed U.S. check found a digital rental listing at $3.99 and a purchase listing at $9.99, but those are snapshots rather than permanent prices. Confirm the current price, rental period, video quality and included subtitles or audio options at checkout.
For readers who want to rent The Rule of Jenny Pen on Amazon, Amazon Video is one of the listed digital options. The Amazon Video listing is separate from a physical Blu-ray or DVD listing, so check that you are selecting the format you actually want.
Is The Rule of Jenny Pen available on Blu-ray or DVD?
Yes. A U.S. Blu-ray release is listed for July 8, 2025. The listed edition includes 1080p video, English audio and subtitles, and is designated Region A. JustWatch also lists DVD and Blu-ray purchase options.

The Blu-ray is the clearest physical-media choice for viewers who want to keep watching the film after a streaming license expires or a platform removes it. Region A compatibility matters: a Region A disc is intended for compatible players in the United States and other Region A markets. Confirm your player’s region before purchasing an imported edition.
If you want to own The Rule of Jenny Pen on Blu-ray, look specifically for the U.S. release details rather than assuming that every listing is the same edition. The available evidence confirms 1080p Blu-ray specifications; it does not establish a 4K release.
A DVD listing may also suit viewers who have a DVD-only player or find that format at a lower price. However, the Blu-ray release has stronger documented U.S. format information. Whether a DVD is the better bargain depends on the seller, condition and current price.

Are there current showtimes?
Not as a normal nationwide theatrical release. The U.S. theatrical release date was March 7, 2025, and the available current-discovery data does not show an active broad theatrical run.
That means a standard “today’s showtimes” search is unlikely to produce regular listings. A cinema could theoretically schedule a special screening, repertory event or one-off engagement, but those would be local exceptions rather than evidence of a current nationwide run. Do not rely on an old theater page or an expired listing as a current showtime.

If you are checking for a special screening, search with your ZIP code on a live theater-ticketing service and confirm the date, venue and ticket availability before traveling. Without a location-specific lookup, no reliable current showtime can be stated.
What is the film about?
The Rule of Jenny Pen is a New Zealand psychological horror film directed by James Ashcroft and starring Geoffrey Rush and John Lithgow. Its story follows a former judge who, after suffering a stroke, is placed in a rest home. There, an elderly resident uses a child’s puppet as part of a sadistic campaign against other residents.

Some services identify it as a 2024 production, while others display it as a 2025 title or release. For U.S. viewing purposes, calling it the 2025 film is the least confusing description, while the differing production-year metadata explains why searches may show both years.

The film is presented as R or TV-MA, depending on the platform and presentation. Viewers should expect violent content, sexual-assault material and some language. The warning is intentionally non-spoiler, but this is not a light or family-oriented puppet horror film.
