What is Last Breath about?
The feature follows seasoned deep-sea diver Duncan Allcock and his colleagues as they try to rescue Chris Lemons, who becomes stranded hundreds of feet beneath the surface while the crew is maintaining an underwater gas line in the North Sea. David Yuasa is also part of the central team. The cast includes Woody Harrelson as Duncan, Simu Liu as David, and Finn Cole as Chris.
The movie is based on a real rescue story and inspired by Alex Parkinson’s 2019 documentary of the same name. It is a dramatized feature, not a claim that every scene recreates events exactly. The premise makes the tension immediate: a diver is isolated underwater while the people best placed to help him face a difficult, time-sensitive rescue.

Rotten Tomatoes’ Critics Consensus, quoted by Tom’s Guide, reads: “Ratcheting up the tension to a riveting degree, Last Breath tells a remarkable true story with the utmost efficiency and a dependably terrific performance from Woody Harrelson.” That is Rotten Tomatoes’ editorial consensus, rather than a statement by a named critic.

If you want a compact survival thriller built around a real deep-sea rescue, Last Breath offers a clear hook: a trapped diver, a crew racing against time, and the hazards of working far below the surface. Its basis in a real story gives the premise added weight, while the feature’s dramatization means it should be watched as a thriller inspired by events, not as a documentary account.
