Gladiator II is not a new release as of August 11, 2026. Ridley Scott’s sequel opened in U.S. theaters on November 22, 2024, and arrived on Paramount+ on January 21, 2025. In the U.S., the most straightforward current option is Paramount+, which Paramount identifies as the streaming home of both Gladiator (2000) and Gladiator II. Availability can change by country, subscription plan, and catalog updates.
The short answer: Paramount+ has both Gladiator movies
For viewers in the United States who want to watch the two films in sequence, Paramount+ is the clearest current option. Paramount’s franchise guide promotes both the original Gladiator and Gladiator II on the service, while the films’ individual Paramount pages direct viewers to sign up to stream them.
That means you can watch Russell Crowe’s Gladiator before moving on to Paul Mescal’s Gladiator II without using two different streaming platforms. Paramount does not guarantee that a title will remain in the catalog, however, so check the live listing before subscribing specifically for either movie.
Check Paramount+ for both Gladiator movies if you want the simplest subscription-based route. This is an editorial service recommendation, not a claim about a free trial, discount, or affiliate offer.

Is Gladiator II “out now”?
Yes, but the wording needs a date correction. Gladiator II is a 2024 film, not a newly released movie in 2026. Paramount lists its U.S. theatrical release as November 22, 2024, and says it became available to stream on Paramount+ beginning January 21, 2025.
The sequel is also directed by Ridley Scott and stars Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Lior Raz, and Derek Jacobi. It is rated R. The original film, also rated R, remains the essential starting point if you want the full story of Maximus before watching the sequel.
Can you watch the first Gladiator for free?
There is no universal, verified free stream that every U.S. viewer can use. “Free” depends on the service, your location, your library or university eligibility, advertising availability, and whether you already have an applicable subscription.
JustWatch’s U.S. listing, checked July 28, 2026, includes the 2000 film on Paramount+, fuboTV, the Paramount+ Amazon Channel, Kanopy, and YouTube TV, as well as a free-TV listing. Those entries do not mean that every viewer can watch without paying. Some may require a subscription, a participating library card, an eligible institution, advertising-supported access, or a particular ZIP code.

Kanopy: potentially free with a participating library
Kanopy is the most relevant library-based possibility. If your public library, college, or university participates and carries the title, you may be able to watch Gladiator at no additional charge through your institution’s account. That is better described as free with a participating library or university, not as a guaranteed free stream.
To check:
- Visit Kanopy through your library or institution’s supported access page.
- Search for Gladiator (2000), not only “Gladiator 2.”
- Confirm that your account is eligible and that the title is available in your catalog.
- Check whether watching the film uses one of your institution’s monthly play credits.
Library catalogs and viewing policies differ, so a result that works for one reader may not be available to another.
Tubi: the listing currently says unavailable
Tubi has a page for Gladiator, but the current page reports “content unavailable.” Do not rely on Tubi as a working free option unless its live U.S. listing allows playback when you check it. Streaming rights change, and an aggregator or search result can remain visible after a title has stopped playing.
The same caution applies to any ad-supported service: verify the title, region, and actual playback before assuming that “free” means available to you.

Other ways to watch Gladiator
Rent or buy it digitally
If you do not want another monthly subscription, JustWatch currently lists Gladiator for purchase through Amazon Video, the Apple TV Store, and Fandango at Home. Rental options listed include Amazon Video, Apple TV Store, Fandango At Home, JustWatch TV, and Spectrum On Demand.
Digital prices, rental windows, storefront rights, and availability are volatile. Check the current U.S. listing and the final price before renting or buying. A digital rental is usually the practical choice when you want to watch the movie once; purchasing makes more sense if you expect to revisit it.
Compare current Gladiator rental and purchase options before choosing a storefront. Amazon Video is one listed option, but no specific price or live Amazon product listing should be treated as permanent.
Buy a physical copy for durable access
For viewers who do not want to depend on a changing streaming catalog, physical media remains a useful fallback. Paramount Home Entertainment has issued a Blu-ray edition of Gladiator containing both the theatrical and extended versions in high definition. A verified retailer search for a Gladiator 4K UHD Blu-ray, Gladiator Blu-ray, or two-movie collection can be worthwhile if you want lasting access.
Check the exact edition before buying: some releases contain only the original film, while others may bundle the two movies. Also confirm that your player supports the format and that the disc’s region is compatible with your equipment. Unlike a streaming subscription, a disc does not disappear from a service catalog, but it does require a compatible player and physical storage.
Which Gladiator should you watch first?
Watch Gladiator (2000) first. The original establishes Maximus, the Roman political conflict, and the emotional history that gives the sequel its context. Gladiator II follows a later generation and introduces a new central character, but it is designed as a continuation of the world and legacy created by the first film.

- Extensive Compatibility: Supports Max 128G USB Flash Drive and all DVDs and Region A 1 Blu-Rays with built-in PAL/NTSC capability
The original runs approximately 155 minutes and was directed by Ridley Scott. Its principal cast includes Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Oliver Reed, and Richard Harris. The film won Best Picture at the 73rd Academy Awards, and Crowe won the Oscar for leading actor for his performance.
A sensible double-feature order is:
- Gladiator (2000), theatrical version or extended version.
- Gladiator II (2024).
If you are watching the original for the first time, the theatrical cut is the straightforward introduction. The extended edition is a longer alternative for viewers who want additional material and already have access to that release.
Best viewing option by situation
| Your situation | Most practical route | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| You want both films in one place | Paramount+ | Catalog availability and pricing can change. |
| You want the original without another paid subscription | Check Kanopy through your library or university | Requires a participating institution and an eligible account. |
| You want an ad-supported option | Check current free-TV and ad-supported listings | Availability varies by location; Tubi’s current page reports the title unavailable. |
| You only want to watch the original once | Rent it digitally | Compare the current rental price and viewing window. |
| You want permanent home access | Buy a Blu-ray or 4K UHD edition | Confirm the edition, format, region, and player compatibility. |
Before you subscribe or click “play”
- Confirm your country: The availability described here is for the United States. Streaming rights differ internationally.
- Check the exact title: Search for Gladiator (2000), since services may also show the 2024 sequel.
- Read the access condition: A library listing may require a participating institution; a free-TV listing may not be available in every ZIP code.
- Verify playback: A visible title page is not proof that the movie is currently playable.
- Check the total cost: Include subscription fees, channel add-ons, rental prices, taxes, and any cancellation terms that apply.
- Remember that catalogs change: Paramount specifically notes that title availability is subject to change.
For most U.S. viewers, the answer is therefore straightforward: use Paramount+ for both films, check Kanopy if you have participating library or university access, and treat “free” listings as conditional rather than guaranteed.
