When did Bugonia arrive on Peacock?
Peacock announced an exclusive U.S. streaming start date of December 26, 2025. A subsequent Peacock article said the movie was streaming on the service in January 2026. That means “new on Peacock this week” is no longer a reliable description without a current release-calendar check. The accurate practical answer is that Bugonia is a Peacock title to look for now, provided it remains in the U.S. catalog at the time you publish or read this guide.
Neither the dossier’s Peacock announcements nor its availability evidence establishes that the film is streaming in every country. Viewers outside the United States should check their local Peacock service, where available, or the regional listings for the film.

What is Bugonia about?
Bugonia is a psychological thriller about Teddy and his cousin Don, two conspiracy-obsessed men who abduct Michelle Fuller, a powerful pharmaceutical-company CEO. They believe Michelle is an extraterrestrial preparing to destroy Earth and try to force her into the explanation they have constructed.
That premise puts several competing versions of reality in the same confined story. Teddy and Don interpret Michelle through conspiracy and alien paranoia, while Michelle resists their attempt to define what is happening to her. The result is a natural fit for viewers interested in dark science fiction, captivity narratives, and stories where certainty becomes increasingly difficult to trust.
The film was adapted by Will Tracy from the 2003 South Korean movie Save the Green Planet!. The adaptation’s central setup is clear without requiring spoilers, so this guide does not discuss later plot developments.
Who stars in Bugonia?
- Emma Stone as Michelle Fuller
- Jesse Plemons as Teddy
- Aidan Delbis as Don, Teddy’s cousin
Yorgos Lanthimos directs, and Will Tracy adapted the screenplay. The production also features cinematographer Robbie Ryan and production designer James Price, whose work supports one of the film’s key contrasts: the captors’ cluttered, isolated home versus Michelle’s sleek, futuristic spaces.
Rank #2
- Stunning 4K and Dolby Vision streaming made simple: With America’s number 1 TV streaming platform,* exploring popular apps—plus tons of free movies, shows, and live TV—is as easy as it is fun. *Based on hours streamed—Hypothesis Group
- Breathtaking picture quality: Stunningly sharp 4K picture brings out rich detail in your entertainment with four times the resolution of HD. Watch as colors pop off your screen and enjoy lifelike clarity with Dolby Vision and HDR10+.
- Seamless streaming for any room: With Roku Streaming Stick 4K, watch your favorite entertainment on any TV in the house, even in rooms farther from your router thanks to the long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
That visual divide is more than a change of setting. It gives the film a way to distinguish the characters’ realities before the story even settles the question of whose interpretation can be trusted. Comparisons to Lanthimos’s other films or to conspiracy thrillers are matters of interpretation rather than a substitute for a review, but the combination of controlled environments, social absurdity, and psychological pressure will be familiar to viewers drawn to his work.
How else can you watch Bugonia?
If Peacock is not the right option—or if you want to own the film—Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced the following home-release schedule:
- November 25, 2025: digital purchase and rental
- December 23, 2025: 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD
For a permanent copy, search for Bugonia 4K UHD Blu-ray. The distributor confirmed that format, but current price, stock, seller, delivery date, and included extras can vary by retailer and should be checked on the live listing. A physical edition may also be the better choice for viewers who want a copy independent of changing streaming rights.

Is Bugonia suitable for children?
No. Peacock lists the movie as R for bloody violent content including a suicide, grisly images, and language. That content warning makes it unsuitable as a general family movie recommendation, even though the premise may initially sound like offbeat science fiction.
The bottom line
For U.S. viewers, Peacock is the primary place to check for Bugonia. The Emma Stone and Jesse Plemons film is a 2025 Yorgos Lanthimos psychological thriller about an alien conspiracy, an abduction, and two incompatible accounts of reality. Its digital release and physical editions—including 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and DVD—offer alternatives if the movie leaves Peacock or if you prefer to rent, buy, or own it.
Check Peacock’s current U.S. catalog before pressing play, and remember that the December 26, 2025 streaming date is the original launch date—not a claim that the film was newly added this week.
