Tappytoon offers Episodes 0 through 3 free and then uses waiting or paid unlocks for later chapters. Tapas offers the first episode free and a one-day Wait Until Free option for most of the series, but that option excludes the latest 16 episodes. If you would rather own the comic than read it serially, Yen Press publishes it in collected print and digital volumes.
Legal online options for the manhwa
Two platforms in the reviewed listings carry the English comic under official arrangements. Both use a mix of free access and delayed or paid unlocks, so the choice depends on how much you are willing to wait and whether you want to pay per chapter.
Tappytoon
Tappytoon labels its English translation as official and states that the comic is “Published by Tappytoon under license from partners.” Its opening episodes, 0 through 3, are marked free. Later episodes are gated: the listing describes them as unlocked with platform currency, with a “Free every 24 hours” option for some chapters. The page labels the work for readers 16 or older. Because gates on a serial platform can change, check the live series page for the current wait or price on any chapter before you start.
Tapas
Tapas lists Solo Leveling as completed and offers the first episode free. Its Wait Until Free option takes one day for episodes in the series, with one exception: the latest 16 episodes are not covered by that one-day wait. The page credits TAPAS MEDIA as publisher, with a 2021 date on the listing. A reader who wants the whole run without paying per chapter will find Tapas the more flexible of the two, but the newest episodes will not unlock on that schedule.

How the free and paid models compare
| Option | Free at the start | Waiting or unlock model | Newest episodes | Notes from the official page |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tappytoon | Episodes 0–3 marked free | Later episodes use platform currency; a “Free every 24 hours” option is listed | Gated on the same model; exact gates not fixed | Official English translation, published under license from partners; labeled for readers 16+ |
| Tapas | First episode free | Wait Until Free takes one day | Latest 16 episodes excluded from the one-day wait | Series marked completed; TAPAS MEDIA credited as publisher (2021) |
| Yen Press collected volumes | Not applicable | Purchase of each volume | Not applicable; volumes are a fixed collection, not a serial feed | Vol. 1 through Vol. 15 plus Side Stories 2 appear in the publisher catalog |
Why “completed” and “free” do not mean every chapter is free
A completed series on Tapas does not mean every chapter is open immediately. The one-day Wait Until Free rule applies only to episodes outside the latest 16. On Tappytoon, the free opening episodes sit alongside later paid or waiting unlocks, so a free start does not mean a free full read. Treat the free episodes as a sample, not as the complete series.
Buying the collected comic
Yen Press publishes the comic in English as collected volumes. The publisher page for Volume 1 lists a paperback at US$20.00 (Canadian $26.00) and a digital edition at US$9.99 (Canadian $11.99). These are list prices displayed on the publisher page when checked in October 2026, not guaranteed current retailer prices. The page also gives ISBN 9781975319434, a release date of March 2, 2021, and an Older Teen age rating. Amazon is listed as a retailer.
The catalog runs from Volume 1 through Volume 15, with Side Stories 2 also listed. Check the publisher catalog for the volumes available in your format before you buy a full run.
Do not confuse the comic with the novel
The Solo Leveling light novel is a separate source work and is not the manhwa. Yen Press lists a Volume 1 novel in paperback and digital formats, also through Amazon. If you want the comic art, buy the Volume 1 comic edition, not the novel.

Which option fits your situation
- You want to start for free and can wait: use Tapas, where the first episode is free and most episodes move on a one-day Wait Until Free schedule.
- You want Tappytoon’s official English translation and can accept chapter gates: start with Episodes 0–3, then decide whether the daily free option or paid unlocks suit you.
- You want to own the comic: buy the Yen Press collected volumes in paperback or digital.
- You want the newest episodes without waiting: expect to pay or wait on either platform, since Tapas excludes its latest 16 episodes from the one-day wait.
Check availability in your region before you pay
The official pages reviewed do not state a country-by-country availability list. Platform access and payment options can differ by market, so confirm the series is offered where you live before you sign up or buy.
- Open the official Tappytoon or Tapas series page and search for Solo Leveling.
- Confirm the translation is labeled official and check the current free and waiting status for the chapter you want.
- For a print or digital volume, open the Yen Press catalog entry for Volume 1 and follow the retailer link for your country, then compare the price shown there with the publisher’s list price.
If the series or a volume does not appear in your region, the platform or retailer storefront for your country is the reliable source for the current position.
