Start with the alert library built into your streaming platform or alert software: Streamlabs offers alert themes and a sound gallery, while Twitch provides default alert media and lets you upload your own. For a more distinctive look, commission original work. GIF and sound-effect sites can help you discover assets, but a file being downloadable—or uploadable—does not mean you have permission to use it on stream or in recordings.
Where to find alert graphics and sounds
Built-in libraries
Streamlabs points creators to its Desktop Media Library for alert themes. Its sound gallery includes free and premium choices; some premium sounds are associated with Streamlabs Ultra. Check Streamlabs’ current product details to confirm what is included with each plan and whether a particular asset is still available.
Twitch’s Asset Library is another direct option for Twitch alerts: it offers default images and sounds and supports uploading custom media. Starting with the platform or alert software you already use is usually the simplest route because the assets are intended for that environment.
Custom commissions
A commissioned graphic or sound can be tailored to your channel’s identity. Streamlabs names Etsy and Fiverr as example marketplaces for finding artists. Before commissioning, agree in writing on the permitted uses, including livestreams, saved VODs, clips, and commercial use. Marketplace listings do not establish the terms of an individual creator’s license.

Third-party discovery libraries
Streamlabs names Giphy and other GIF sites as places to discover visual assets, and Free Sound, Sound Bible, and AudioMicro as sound-effect sources. Treat these as discovery options, not blanket licenses. Check the terms for each individual asset and contact its creator when permission is unclear. Streamlabs specifically advises contacting a GIF’s author for permission.
Make a GIF yourself
Streamlabs also points to Giphy and Gifmaker as tools for making GIFs. Creating the GIF does not clear the rights to the material inside it: confirm you may use any underlying images or footage in your stream and recordings.

Check usage rights before adding an asset
Twitch requires alert images and sounds to follow its Community Guidelines and not violate third-party rights, including copyright. A platform’s upload feature only means the file can be added technically; it does not establish that you hold a license. Keep permission or license records with the asset, and confirm the rights cover both live broadcasts and recordings you publish.
- Check whether the license permits livestream use and archived videos, clips, or other recordings.
- Confirm whether commercial use is allowed if your channel is monetized or the content promotes a business.
- Save the asset’s license terms or written permission, along with the asset itself.
- For commissions, get the agreed usage rights in writing rather than relying on a marketplace listing.
Check formats and file-size limits
Supported formats and limits depend on the service. Twitch’s documented alert options and Streamlabs Alert Box formats are not interchangeable guarantees; check the current help page for the product you plan to use before preparing files.

Add the alert to your streaming software
OBS Studio
- Choose an alert provider and configure the alert there. OBS Studio does not directly provide stream alerts.
- In OBS, add the provider’s overlay as a Browser Source and use the provider’s widget or overlay URL and setup instructions.
- Trigger a test alert. Check that its graphic appears in the intended position and that its sound is audible in the stream mix.
Streamlabs Desktop or plugin
- In Streamlabs Desktop, add an Alert Box source and configure its alert media.
- If using the Streamlabs plugin with OBS, add its Alert Box widget.
- In other supported software, copy the Streamlabs widget URL into a Browser Source.
- Test both image and sound before going live, and confirm the sound is included in the mix your audience hears.
