The movie’s custom Need for Speed Mustang was last publicly documented at a charity auction in 2014, when Dave Flynn of Columbiana, Ohio, won it with a $300,000 bid. Its present location and any later ownership have not been confirmed in the sources available, so it cannot responsibly be placed in Ohio, a museum, or a particular collection today.
Which Need for Speed Mustang was auctioned?
The car at the center of the question is the custom 2014 Mustang built as the film’s hero car—not every Mustang or other vehicle seen during production. Ford and DreamWorks announced their film partnership on June 10, 2013, describing a one-off Ford-designed Mustang with a custom wide body, unique 22-inch alloy wheels, larger air intakes, and a supercharged V8. Ford and DreamWorks’ announcement also identifies a separate F-450 nicknamed “The Beast” and a Mustang used as a camera car.
In March 2014, Ford said Aaron Paul would drive the custom 2014 Mustang hero car in the film. Ford’s March 2014 release describes that film role. The production also used other cars, which can make references to “the Need for Speed Mustang” ambiguous.
Who bought the movie’s Mustang, and when?
Henry Ford Health System reported that Dave Flynn of Columbiana, Ohio, won the custom Mustang at Barrett-Jackson’s Palm Beach auction on April 12, 2014, with a bid of $300,000. The health system said proceeds from the sale went to the Edith and Benson Ford Heart & Vascular Institute. Its April 15, 2014 announcement reported that the fundraiser raised more than $660,000 that year, including the Mustang auction, and more than $1.8 million over its first three years.

Where is the car now?
The 2014 auction is the last confirmed public ownership event in the available records. Those records do not establish a later sale, a current owner, or the car’s present location. Flynn’s Ohio residence at the time of the auction does not prove the Mustang remains in Ohio, and the absence of a later location report does not show that it was scrapped or remains with him.

Several distinct vehicles were associated with the production. A contemporaneous Car and Driver report from March 12, 2014 distinguishes the custom car from the 2015 Mustang prototype cameo at the film’s end. It says most Mustang-heavy action used 2014 Mustang GTs, including six Ford supplied to the production, and that a Shelby GT500 was used as a close-up hero car. The report says the 2015 prototype returned to Ford’s test fleet after filming; that is a separate car and does not locate the custom Mustang auctioned in 2014.

| Vehicle | Film role or identity | Documented fate |
|---|---|---|
| Custom 2014 Mustang | One-off hero car, driven by Aaron Paul | Sold at the 2014 charity auction for a $300,000 winning bid; later location not confirmed. |
| 2014 Mustang GTs | Used for much of the Mustang-heavy action; Ford supplied six, according to Car and Driver. | Later locations not stated in the cited report. |
| Shelby GT500 | Used as a close-up hero car, according to Car and Driver. | Later location not stated in the cited report. |
| 2015 Mustang prototype | Cameo at the film’s end. | Car and Driver reported that it returned to Ford’s test fleet after filming. |
| F-450 “The Beast” and Mustang camera car | Separate production vehicles identified in Ford and DreamWorks’ announcement. | Later locations not stated in that announcement. |
Only the custom 2014 hero car is the Mustang tied to the 2014 auction result. The known fate of the 2015 prototype must not be mistaken for the fate of the auctioned car.
