Gilmore Girls premiered on October 5, 2000, and ran for seven seasons and 153 episodes, according to Hulu’s anniversary guide revised October 13, 2025. A quarter-century on, its best-known cast members have taken notably different routes: from long-running television dramas and films to memoirs and a cast-reunion podcast. These selected credits trace some of those paths; they are not a complete cast census or filmography.
Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel returned to Stars Hollow—and built careers beyond it
Lauren Graham moved between television, books, and the revival
After playing Lorelai Gilmore, Graham took the role of Sarah Braverman on Parenthood, which ran from 2010 to 2015. She returned as Lorelai in the 2016 Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, and later appeared in projects including Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. The range shows a career that continued across television formats rather than remaining tied to one defining character. (Sources: Us Weekly; ELLE.)

Graham has also written about her acting career. Her 2016 essay collection, Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls (and Everything in Between), reflects on the series and her work around it. In December 2025, the Associated Press reported that Graham and creator Amy Sherman-Palladino were working on an untitled book about their years making the show, then scheduled for fall 2027. Graham said, “I’m thrilled to collaborate with Amy to bring readers all our stories of the special years we spent filming Gilmore Girls, the first and second time!” The AP report did not establish a title or exact release date. (Associated Press, December 3, 2025.)
Alexis Bledel took on a darker television role
Bledel’s later credits include The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Mad Men, and the 2016 revival. One striking change in tone came with The Handmaid’s Tale, where she played Emily Malek from 2017 through 2022, according to Us Weekly’s January 2026 cast roundup. It was a substantial dramatic departure from Rory’s bookish coming-of-age story. (Us Weekly; ELLE.)

Melissa McCarthy expanded from Stars Hollow comedy to film and television hits
McCarthy’s post-series credits span television comedy and major film roles. Selected examples include Bridesmaids, Mike & Molly, Ghostbusters, and The Little Mermaid; Hulu’s October 2025 anniversary guide also lists her in Only Murders in the Building. These are snapshots of a much broader career, not a complete list. The shift from the warm, eccentric Sookie St. James to varied film and TV parts is among the most visible changes in the cast’s professional paths. (Hulu; ELLE.)
Three of Rory’s love interests found different television homes
Jared Padalecki moved into long-running genre and network dramas
Padalecki, who played Dean Forester, became closely associated with Supernatural and later starred in Walker. Both roles placed him in the center of series with a very different tone and scale from his early run as Rory’s first boyfriend. (ELLE.)

Milo Ventimiglia took on prominent ensemble dramas
Ventimiglia’s later credits include Heroes and This Is Us. Where Jess Mariano was a disruptive presence in Rory’s small-town orbit, these projects put Ventimiglia in high-profile ensemble television with broader stories and casts. (ELLE.)
Scott Patterson added film roles and a rewatch podcast
Patterson’s selected later screen work includes the Saw films and Sullivan’s Crossing. He also returned to the series from a different angle with I Am All In With Scott Patterson, an episode-by-episode Gilmore Girls podcast. It turns his connection to Luke Danes into a platform for revisiting the show rather than simply reprising the character. (ELLE.)

Kelly Bishop and Keiko Agena carried their work into new roles
Kelly Bishop added new series and a memoir
Bishop’s later screen credits include Bunheads, The Good Wife, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. In 2024, she published The Third Gilmore Girl, a memoir whose title acknowledges the character that remains a defining part of her public story. Her career after Emily Gilmore therefore includes both further acting work and a personal account of her life in the profession. (Associated Press; ELLE.)
Keiko Agena continued with character roles across television
Agena, who played Lane Kim, later appeared in Better Call Saul and had recurring or guest roles in other series. Her path illustrates a less headline-driven but steady kind of television career: moving among projects and supporting roles rather than being defined by one subsequent starring series. (ELLE.)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. The cast’s paths are varied, not a single post-Gilmore template
The clearest through-line is variety. Graham’s career spans series acting and writing; Bledel shifted into darker prestige drama; McCarthy took on prominent film and comedy work; Padalecki and Ventimiglia became associated with other high-profile television series; Patterson revisited the original show through podcasting; Bishop published a memoir; and Agena continued in television roles. These examples show how different the next chapters became, but they do not establish a complete accounting of every principal, recurring, or guest performer.
Where to watch Gilmore Girls
Hulu’s official guide, revised October 13, 2025, said all seven seasons (153 episodes) were available on demand on its platform.
