His most recent explicitly reported location is Tulsa, Oklahoma, from a June 2024 ABC News interview, and the reporting available as of October 2026 does not confirm where he lives or works today. He has not returned to a pastoral role that has been reported as established, and his own 2024 statement that he had no desire to rejoin the pulpit “for now” is the most direct evidence on that question. The sections below separate dated facts from present-day assumptions.
How Lentz left Hillsong
Hillsong ended Lentz’s employment on November 4, 2020. In a statement attributed to Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston, the church said the decision followed “ongoing discussions in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.” Hillsong did not describe the events in detail and said it would not make further public comments on the matter. Those stated reasons come from the church, and any account beyond them should be read as reporting, not as confirmed findings.

Key dates at a glance
| Date | What was reported | How much weight it carries today |
|---|---|---|
| November 4, 2020 | Hillsong terminates Lentz’s employment, citing leadership issues, breaches of trust and moral failures (Hillsong statement attributed to Brian Houston) | Primary statement from the church; the church’s rationale only |
| March 2023 | ChurchLeaders reports that Lentz accepted a staff position at Transformation Church in Tulsa | Dated appointment; not evidence that the role continues or what his duties are |
| Summer 2024 | The Lights On with Carl Lentz podcast launches, according to ChurchLeaders | Secondary report of the launch period |
| June 7, 2024 | ABC News reports the Lentz family is rebuilding life in Tulsa; Lentz says he has no desire to return to the pulpit “for now” | Most recent explicit location and ministry statement found in reporting |
| October 22, 2025 | Apple Podcasts lists an episode with Carl and Laura Lentz and Mike and Natalie Todd covering the scandal, accountability, restoration and the question of returning to ministry | Platform listing of the episode; the listing does not state a ministry decision |
| November 20, 2025 | ChurchLeaders covers a conversation between Lentz and Ruslan about pastoral qualifications and returning to ministry | Secondary report of a discussion, not an appointment |
| June 13, 2026 | JubileeCast reports a Lights On episode with Charles and Abby Metcalf on marriage, parenting, communication and rebuilding trust | Secondary report confirming ongoing podcast activity |
Where he is living
The most recent explicit location in the reporting is Tulsa, Oklahoma. ABC News reported in June 2024 that the Lentz family was living there and rebuilding its life after the scandal. That is a dated report of a 2024 situation. None of the later coverage found confirms a current address, and the reporting available as of October 2026 does not establish that Tulsa is still where the family lives. Treat Tulsa as a 2024 location, not a verified present-day residence.
What he is doing now
His clearest documented public activity is hosting Lights On with Carl Lentz. The podcast’s launch is dated to summer 2024, and platform listings and secondary reports document episodes in October 2025 and June 2026. Hosting a podcast shows that he is publicly active, but it does not establish a full-time occupation, and the reporting does not describe his income or whether the show is his primary work.
#1 Best Overall
His Transformation Church appointment is a separate matter. ChurchLeaders reported in March 2023 that he had accepted a staff position at the Tulsa church. That is a reported appointment from 2023. The reporting does not establish whether he still holds it or what responsibilities it involves, so it should not be presented as his current job.
Has he returned to pastoral ministry?
There is no reported return to pastoral leadership as of October 2026. The clearest statement comes from ABC News in June 2024, which reported that he had no desire to rejoin the pulpit at that time. Later episodes have addressed the question of returning to ministry, including the October 2025 episode and the November 2025 ChurchLeaders report on a conversation about pastoral qualifications. Discussing the topic is not the same as taking a role, and none of those sources reports a new ministry appointment. The 2024 statement was time-specific and should be quoted with its date.

Family, recovery and the public account
Much of what is publicly known about the family’s recovery comes from the couple themselves. In the 2024 ABC News interview, Lentz described therapy and recovery, and the reporting presents his and Laura Lentz’s descriptions of rebuilding as their own accounts. Those accounts are not independently verified clinical facts. The same interview also described allegations made by a former family employee, which Lentz denied. Those are allegations, not findings, and they are included here only as context for the 2024 coverage.
Lentz’s later podcast has continued to cover family life, trust and restoration. Outside what the family has chosen to share publicly, the reporting does not establish further details about their private circumstances.

Quoted material
- Hillsong’s statement, November 4, 2020, attributed to Global Senior Pastor Brian Houston: “This action has been taken following ongoing discussions in relation to leadership issues and breaches of trust, plus a recent revelation of moral failures.”
- ABC News, June 7, 2024, on Lentz’s ministry position. This is ABC’s paraphrase of what Lentz said, not a verbatim quotation: he has no desire to rejoin the pulpit “for now.”
What is established and what is not
- Established: Hillsong ended his employment on November 4, 2020, and gave the reasons described above.
- Established as of the latest reporting: He hosts the Lights On with Carl Lentz podcast, with episodes documented through June 2026.
- Reported but not current: Tulsa as the family’s location (June 2024) and a Transformation Church staff appointment (March 2023).
- Not established: his current residence, whether he still works for Transformation Church, his full-time occupation, and any new ministry role.
For readers who want to watch rather than read, the documentary context is limited to a RELEVANT report from 2023, which described the family’s participation in a documentary and his then-new Transformation Church position. That report predates the events above, so it describes the situation at the time it was written, not the present.
