The latest public-status report located is a July 1, 2025 PEOPLE-syndicated explainer noting that her mother, Christy Beam, posted a birthday message for Annabel’s September 2024 birthday. It does not name a city, employer, school or profession.
What can be confirmed about Annabel Beam today
Annabel Beam is the real person whose childhood illness, fall and reported recovery are described in her mother Christy Wilson Beam’s 2015 memoir, Miracles from Heaven: A Little Girl, Her Journey to Heaven, and Her Amazing Story of Healing. The book was published as nonfiction and became the basis for the 2016 feature film Miracles from Heaven.
The available public record does not establish Annabel’s current home, job, school, marital status or detailed medical condition. Online claims assigning her to a particular city or career should therefore be treated as unverified unless Annabel or her family confirms them through a newer primary source.
Is Annabel Beam still alive?
The 2025 PEOPLE-syndicated report described Christy Beam’s birthday message for Annabel’s September 2024 birthday, indicating that Annabel was alive at that point. That report was not a direct interview with Annabel and did not provide a current location or health assessment in 2026.

Is she healthy now?
The Beam family has described a dramatic improvement after Annabel’s accident, but no current medical evaluation has been published that independently verifies her present health. The careful wording is that the family reports a recovery, not that a current medical status has been publicly documented.
What happened to the real girl in the story?
According to Christy Beam’s memoir and her official account, Annabel suffered a rare, incurable digestive or gastrointestinal motility disorder and spent much of her childhood in hospitals. She later fell headfirst roughly three stories into a hollowed-out tree and survived without an apparent physical injury. The family says that after the accident, the chronic symptoms associated with her disorder disappeared in a way they could not explain.
Those details are the Beam family’s testimony as presented in the memoir and related interviews. The published material establishes what the family says happened; it does not independently demonstrate that a supernatural cause produced the recovery.
What Annabel says about the heaven experience
In a March 15, 2016, Christian Post interview, Annabel said the film’s depiction did not precisely match what she remembered. Her description was: “In my experience I didn’t have to go through a journey to go to Heaven. I was just kind of there.”

She also said that the movie’s bright, magical-looking forest and fields were unlike her account. Her comments make clear that the film uses visual and narrative choices that should not be mistaken for a literal transcript of her experience.
Memoir versus movie
| Aspect | Memoir | 2016 film |
|---|---|---|
| Source and authorship | Christy Wilson Beam’s nonfiction family account. | A dramatized feature adaptation of that account. |
| Detail and chronology | Provides the family’s medical history and surrounding context in greater detail. | Condenses events and reshapes them for a feature-film narrative. |
| Heaven depiction | Relates Annabel’s reported experience as remembered by the family. | Uses bright, cinematic imagery; Annabel said it was not an exact match for her account. |
| Availability | Hachette documents the book’s publication and retail availability. | Streaming and rental availability can vary by country and platform. |
The Beam family’s continuing work
Christy Beam’s official story page says the family established the Annabel Fund, also called the Motility Research and Treatment Discovery Fund. It supports pediatric motility research, patient care and physician training. This public charitable work is documented, but it does not reveal Annabel’s private residence or occupation.

Christy Beam’s official biography identifies her as the memoir’s author, notes the book’s New York Times bestseller status and records the Sony/Columbia Pictures film adaptation. Her homepage continues to offer speaking bookings.

There are two separate questions. First, Annabel, her illness, the tree accident and the family’s account of improvement are presented as real events in Christy Beam’s memoir and family interviews. Second, whether the recovery or reported heaven experience proves a supernatural intervention is a matter of belief and interpretation; the available sources do not provide independent scientific proof of that conclusion.

Annabel’s own comments about differences in the heaven scenes are direct evidence that parts of the movie were creatively reconstructed.
Bottom line on where Annabel Beam is now
As of September 30, 2026, her exact location and occupation are not verified by reliable public reporting. A 2025 account of her mother’s birthday post is the latest status signal identified, but it supplies no city, workplace or current medical details. The most responsible answer is therefore that Annabel’s private life is not publicly documented, while the memoir, family story and film remain available accounts of what happened during her childhood.
