Dragon Ball DAIMA is set broadly after the Majin Buu conflict from Dragon Ball Z and before the Battle of Gods and Dragon Ball Super-era events in the story. It is a placement in story order, not a claim about release dates, and the official material does not give an exact in-universe year or the length of time between Buu and DAIMA.
The short answer
DAIMA belongs after the Buu saga. Its opening premise is that Goku and his friends are living peacefully until something turns them small, and that story then moves toward the Demon Realm. Toei Animation’s description of Dragon Ball Super, which follows the Buu saga and introduces characters from Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’, supports placing DAIMA in the same broad stretch of story time, before the later Super-era events.

What DAIMA’s official premise establishes
The Dragon Ball Official Site’s DAIMA synopsis opens with this line: “Goku and company were living peaceful lives when they suddenly turned small due to a conspiracy!” The synopsis then says the cause may lie in a world known as the “Demon Realm,” where a mysterious young Majin named Glorio appears.
That premise is what anchors DAIMA to the Buu era. The characters are established as a settled group before the shrinking, which places the story after the major Buu conflict rather than during it. The official material does not go further than that, so any more specific placement should be read as inference.

The Dragon Ball Official Site’s 2024 announcement credits Akira Toriyama with DAIMA’s original concept, story, and character designs. That credit confirms his involvement, but it does not on its own settle where the series sits in continuity.
Where Dragon Ball Super and Battle of Gods sit
Toei Animation’s official article, published July 5, 2015, describes Dragon Ball Super this way: “This new series takes place right after the Dragon Ball Z Buu saga and includes the new characters introduced in the two last movies derived from the series: Battle of Gods and Resurrection ‘F’.”

- Textless Opening & Ending Songs LIMITED EDITION INCLUDES: 7 foil art cards Goku x Vegeta x Piccolo sticker Rigid box with exclusive art by the character designer
That sentence describes Super, not DAIMA. It is useful here for one reason: it shows the franchise’s later material starting from the Buu-era setting. DAIMA’s own Buu-era opening is what puts it before the Battle of Gods and Super-era events, and the two sources work together rather than as a single statement.
Why the official release chronology does not set story order
The Dragon Ball Official Site’s Series Chronology lists release and broadcast milestones: Battle of Gods in 2013, Dragon Ball Super’s serialization and broadcast beginning in 2015, and DAIMA’s broadcast beginning in 2024. It is a record of when works came out, not a ranking of events inside the fictional timeline. Reading that list as “DAIMA happens after Super” would be a mistake, and it is the most common source of confusion for new viewers.

What is not established
- An exact in-universe year for DAIMA, or for the Buu conflict, is not stated in the official sources reviewed.
- The length of time between the end of the Buu saga and DAIMA’s opening is not stated. Any number of months or years you see online is an estimate, not an official fact.
- The official sources do not say how DAIMA’s characters and events connect to every later Super-era storyline in detail. Treat that as open rather than settled.
