Bill Gates has named two Seattle-area burger favorites: Burgermaster and Dick’s Drive-In. He said he had probably eaten at Burgermaster more often because it was near Microsoft’s early Bellevue office—not because he chose it over Dick’s.
Which burger places did Bill Gates name?
In a 2013 report, Gates named Burgermaster and Dick’s Drive-In as favorites. He called Burgermaster’s name self-explanatory and described Dick’s as “a classic.” The report associated Burgermaster with an original burger and fries, and Dick’s with a Deluxe and a shake; Gates also praised Dick’s fries. 2013 report
Why did he eat at Burgermaster more often?
In a 2019 interview with GeekWire, Gates said, “I’ve probably eaten more Burgermaster than Dick’s because of that,” referring to Burgermaster’s proximity to Microsoft’s early Bellevue office. He added, “I absolutely love both. I’ll eat lots of different burgers at various times, but … they’re both pretty amazing.” GeekWire interview
So the clearest answer is Burgermaster for reported frequency, while Dick’s Drive-In is also one of Gates’s stated favorites. His comments describe a personal preference, not a taste-test verdict.

What should visitors know about Burgermaster now?
The answer is best understood as Seattle-area history, not a current dining guide. Gates’s comments were reported in 2013 and 2019, and do not establish where he eats today. In 2025, Eater Seattle reported that the original University Village Burgermaster location was closing and described the chain as having six restaurants at that time. That dated report does not verify current locations, menus, prices, or hours. Eater Seattle report
