ITV reported that William visited Catherine at The London Clinic in London on Thursday, 18 January 2024, and was seen leaving at about 12:35 p.m. ITV’s report and Sky News’s report covered the visit. Sky News quoted Kensington Palace confirming: “The prince has just left hospital after visiting his wife.”

What had the palace said about the surgery?
In a statement published on 17 January, Kensington Palace said Catherine had been admitted on 16 January for planned abdominal surgery. It described the surgery as successful and said the expected hospital stay was 10 to 14 days. That was the palace’s forecast at the time, not a confirmed account of how long she ultimately remained in hospital. What surgery did Catherine have?
The palace did not name the specific operation or disclose the underlying condition. Its statement said Catherine appreciated public interest and asked that her personal medical information remain private. Contemporary reporting likewise noted that further details had not been provided. The January announcement therefore does not establish a diagnosis, and the length of the anticipated hospital stay should not be used to infer one.

How does this fit with later health updates?
The January visit was a development during Catherine’s recovery, reported alongside William’s decision to postpone official engagements to support his family. It did not reveal a diagnosis. The later announcement that Catherine was receiving cancer treatment came on 22 March 2024, as recorded in the Associated Press timeline. That March disclosure was a separate update, not information contained in the January palace statement.
