It names Sonic, Tails, Shadow, Knuckles, Amy Rose, and Metal Sonic as characters featured in the merchandise. Why the fourth film is a major franchise release
SEGA’s January 2025 announcement said Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had earned $425 million worldwide, surpassing the prior film’s $405 million record; it also reported that the three films had grossed more than $1 billion worldwide. Those are historical franchise figures, not a forecast for Sonic the Hedgehog 4. In a separate March 2026 release, SEGA described the franchise’s 1.77 billion figure as combined sales and free-to-play downloads, not games sold.
