How the release date fits the franchise
In its January 22, 2025 announcement, SEGA reported that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 had reached $425 million worldwide at that time, compared with $405 million for the previous film, and said the three-film franchise had surpassed $1 billion in worldwide box office gross. Paramount later reported, in a February 17, 2025 press release, that the third film had grossed over $478 million and the franchise had passed $1.2 billion globally.
