Season 3 of Jurassic World: Chaos Theory is set in the era of Jurassic World Dominion, a film set in 2022. Its Malta episodes overlap with that film’s Malta storyline. No exact in-universe month or day has been published for the season, so “the Dominion era, 2022” is the most precise placement the available reporting and official listings support.
Where the season sits on the timeline
Chaos Theory continues the story of Camp Cretaceous and brings back the older Nublar Six. Netflix’s official logline frames the series after the park’s closure and the fall of the kingdom. Within that continuity, co-showrunner and executive producer Scott Kreamer has said the series was always headed toward the Dominion timeline, which makes Season 3 part of the period the film depicts rather than a separate, later era.
Six years after the Camp Cretaceous time jump
Kreamer placed the series six years after the time jump that closes Camp Cretaceous. SYFY WIRE quoted him on this in a May 28, 2024 timeline feature:
“So we always knew we were headed towards the Dominion timeline.”

Why the gap changed from five years to six
The sequel series was first conceived as five years after Camp Cretaceous. It was moved to six years when Dominion was delayed during the pandemic. Kreamer’s explanation was:
“Then [Chaos Theory] got set six years later because the movie moved.”

That shift matters for the reader because it explains why the series lands on the film’s timeline rather than on the earlier date originally planned.
Where Season 3 overlaps with the film
The connection to Dominion is more specific than a general setting reference. SYFY WIRE’s April 7, 2025 feature reported that two Season 3 episodes, “No Escape” and “Active Pursuit,” line up with the film’s sequence in Malta. According to that reporting, the overlap includes:

Neither the official listings nor the coverage cited here gives an exact in-universe month or day for Season 3, and no episode-by-episode calendar has been published. Anyone citing a specific date for the season is going beyond what is documented. The safest statement is that Season 3 falls in the Dominion era, roughly 2022 on the film’s own timeline, with the Malta episodes touching the film’s Malta events.
