Wicked: For Good came out in U.S. theaters on November 21, 2025. It is the concluding film in Universal’s two-part adaptation of the Wicked stage musical, adapting the musical’s second act rather than launching a separate Oz story or a third installment.
The film is now available through the main U.S. home-viewing formats: digital purchase and rental began December 30, 2025; 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD arrived January 20, 2026; and the film began streaming on Peacock on March 20, 2026. Availability, pricing and subscription requirements can vary outside the United States.

Where can you watch Wicked: For Good?
Streaming on Peacock

#1 Best Overall
If you are outside the U.S., do not assume that Peacock is available in your territory or that the same release window applies. Check the local Universal, Peacock or licensed retailer listing for the country where you live.
Digital purchase or rental
Universal Pictures Home Entertainment announced digital purchase and rental availability beginning December 30, 2025. Digital storefronts can list different rental periods, video resolutions and prices, so check the individual store before paying. Buying digitally is generally the straightforward option if you want to watch without waiting for a physical shipment, while renting may be more economical for a single viewing.
4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD
The physical release followed on January 20, 2026. It includes 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD formats, along with a sing-along version and more than an hour of bonus material, including deleted scenes and making-of content, according to Universal’s home-video announcement.
For viewers who want the highest-resolution physical edition, the Wicked: For Good 4K UHD Blu-ray is the most relevant format to look for. A 4K disc normally requires a compatible 4K UHD player; a standard Blu-ray player cannot play a 4K UHD disc, although many 4K packages also include a regular Blu-ray copy. Verify the package contents before ordering because editions and included discs can differ by retailer and region.
Is this the second Wicked movie or a third one?
Wicked: For Good is the second and final film in the two-part movie adaptation. It is not a spin-off and it is not a third sequel.
The stage musical is divided into two acts. The first movie, titled simply Wicked, adapts the stage show’s first act. For Good adapts the second act, beginning after Elphaba has been publicly labeled the Wicked Witch of the West and driven away from the Emerald City.
The filmmakers chose a two-film structure rather than compressing the nearly three-hour stage musical into one conventional-length movie. That decision gave the production room to retain the major musical numbers and expand the setting, political conflict and character stories for cinema. The sequel therefore follows the broad second-act framework, but it is not a scene-for-scene recording of the Broadway production.

What is Wicked: For Good about?
Spoilers begin here. The story follows the consequences of Elphaba and Glinda’s choices after the events of the first film.
Elphaba, played by Cynthia Erivo, is living in exile and has been branded Oz’s Wicked Witch of the West. She continues to resist the Wizard’s government and works to defend the silenced Animals of Oz. Glinda, played by Ariana Grande, has taken the opposite public position: she is celebrated as the polished face of goodness and remains at the Emerald City palace under Madame Morrible’s influence.
Although Glinda is admired by the citizens of Oz, her new status does not erase her feelings about Elphaba. She is preparing to marry Fiyero while trying to repair the relationship with her former friend and persuade Elphaba to reconcile with the Wizard. Those efforts collide with a worsening political crisis.
The conflict affects the people around them as well. Boq and Fiyero are transformed by the consequences of the characters’ decisions, Nessarose is placed in danger, and Dorothy’s arrival becomes part of the story. As public anger turns into an organized mob against Elphaba, Elphaba and Glinda must decide whether their friendship can survive the roles Oz has imposed on them.

Elphaba appears to be destroyed when Dorothy throws water on her. Oz accepts this as proof that the Wicked Witch is dead, allowing the authorities and the public to preserve the story they have been told about her.

The film then expands and clarifies several elements of the stage musical’s conclusion. Glinda confronts the Wizard and Madame Morrible. The movie makes the Wizard’s biological connection to Elphaba explicit through the green bottle associated with Elphaba’s mother. Glinda sends the Wizard away with Dorothy and holds Morrible accountable for her role in the persecution and manipulation of Oz.
Glinda also begins changing the treatment of the Animals publicly, suggesting that Elphaba’s resistance has changed her former friend and may eventually change Oz itself.
Elphaba is not actually dead. Fiyero, who is revealed to be the Scarecrow, has survived as well and reunites with her. The two leave Oz together while allowing the public to believe that Elphaba died. This preserves the appearance of the Wicked Witch’s defeat while giving Elphaba and Fiyero a chance to escape.

Elphaba’s reputation is not repaired immediately, but Glinda’s decisions begin dismantling the system that created it. The title For Good refers not only to the duet shared by the two women but also to the lasting effect their friendship has on their identities and on Oz.

The soundtrack was released through Republic Records and contains the principal vocal performances. A separate motion-picture-score release features orchestral music by John Powell and Stephen Schwartz. Fans who want a physical music edition can look for the Wicked: For Good soundtrack CD or vinyl release, but format availability and inventory may vary.
How is the movie different from the stage musical?
The broad story and second-act songs come from the stage musical, but the movie expands the material for a feature-film format. It adds character development, action and world-building rather than simply reproducing the theatrical production.
The ending also changes the emphasis. The film more directly shows the political consequences of Elphaba’s persecution, makes the Wizard’s connection to her explicit, gives Glinda a more visible role in confronting the people responsible, and confirms the survival and reunion of Elphaba and Fiyero. Its treatment of Oz’s Animals is also more explicit than a basic plot summary of the stage version might suggest.

It is best understood as a film adaptation of Act Two, not as an identical transfer of the stage script.

Readers who want the literary source behind the musical can try Gregory Maguire’s Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. It is the novel that inspired the stage musical, but it is not a novelization of the two Universal films. Maguire’s book has a darker, more political and more adult tone, and its characterization and world-building differ substantially from the musical and movie versions.
In other words, the book is best approached as an alternate literary interpretation of Oz—not as a scene-by-scene explanation of what happens in Wicked: For Good.
