Is The Electric State based on a book?
Yes. The film takes its inspiration from Simon Stålenhag’s 2018 illustrated science-fiction book, The Electric State. Stålenhag told Tudum that the film changes the genre somewhat while retaining the story’s emotional core of family. Netflix says the movie expands on the source story concept, so the book is not a scene-by-scene movie novelization.
