Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1 began streaming in the U.S. exclusively on Max on August 23, 2024. Its earlier digital rental and purchase release was July 16, 2024—a separate paid video-on-demand window, not the Max subscription debut.
Digital release dates: rental, purchase and subscription streaming
| Viewing option | U.S. date | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Digital rental or purchase | July 16, 2024 | Paid video-on-demand (PVOD) through digital retailers. Forbes reported that Prime Video listed the film at 9 p.m. Pacific on July 15, which was July 16 on the East Coast. Forbes |
| Subscription streaming | August 23, 2024 | Streaming debut exclusively on Max in the U.S., according to Warner Bros. Discovery’s announcement of August 15, 2024. Warner Bros. Discovery Pressroom |
The two dates describe different ways to watch: PVOD means paying to rent or buy a digital copy, while Max made the film available to subscribers. Warner Bros. Discovery announced that the film would “make its streaming debut FRIDAY, AUGUST 23 exclusively on Max.”
