What happened at the Golden Globes?
The Golden Globes’ official event listing confirms that Ferrera and Costner presented the television musical-or-comedy acting award at the January 7, 2024 ceremony. It does not include a transcript of their exchange. The description of Costner reciting part of Ferrera’s Barbie monologue comes from a secondary video result, so the precise wording and extent of the recitation should not be treated as verified by the official listing.

Which ‘Barbie’ monologue was being referenced?
Ferrera’s speech is delivered by Gloria in the 2023 film Barbie. PBS describes it as a monologue about what it is to be a woman in the modern world and interviewed Ferrera about the speech. That framing helps explain why the moment resonated beyond the ceremony: the speech gives voice to pressures and contradictions associated with womanhood.
