The couple announced their engagement in November 2020. 7NEWS reported the news on 10 November, followed by PerthNow on 11 November. At the time, Holmes was a Seven sports commentator and former Adelaide Crows AFLW player; Brooksby was playing for Hawthorn.

Brooksby proposed at Uluru, in the Northern Territory. Holmes’s Instagram caption, quoted by 7NEWS, described the moment: “And then on our own private sand dune, in the heart of Australia, I SAID YES.” Brooksby wrote: “Perfect moment, perfect person, perfect location.”

No. The engagement was followed by their marriage in November 2023. 7NEWS reported that they married in the Northern Territory at the foot of Uluru; Holmes described the location as meaningful to them.
