For U.S. viewers, the week of roughly Jan. 18–24, 2025 brought major movies to subscription services, several films to video on demand, and new television options including The Night Agent season 2. The strongest documentary picks are Eternal You and Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat.
This guide distinguishes titles included with a streaming subscription from films that require a separate rental or purchase. Catalogs, plan requirements, and prices can change, so confirm availability in your account before watching.
The biggest subscription-streaming arrivals
| Title | Service | Best for | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Wild Robot | Peacock | Families, animation fans, and adults looking for an accessible emotional film | Subscription streaming |
| Gladiator II | Paramount+ and MGM+ | Action and franchise viewers | Subscription or premium-channel access; check the plan or add-on |
| Blink Twice | Prime Video | Psychological-thriller fans | Listed as a Prime Video arrival; confirm whether it is included or separately billed |
| Sleep | Hulu | Viewers who want Korean horror with darkly comic elements | Subscription streaming |
| Your Monster | Max | Horror-romance audiences | Subscription streaming |
The Wild Robot is the week’s best all-purpose recommendation. Its family-friendly animation makes it broadly accessible, while its awards-season profile gives adults a reason to watch beyond the target age group.
Gladiator II is the obvious choice for large-scale action. Its availability on both Paramount+ and MGM+ gives existing subscribers an easy route, although MGM+ may be a premium add-on rather than part of a standard package.

For something darker, Blink Twice is a psychological thriller directed by Zoë Kravitz. It includes disturbing themes and sexual violence, so it is not a casual family-night option. Sleep brings a more unusual horror blend, involving child endangerment and psychologically unsettling material, while Your Monster combines horror and romance with mature themes.
These film arrivals were identified in contemporaneous U.S. coverage from The Film Stage and weekend streaming coverage. “New this week” refers to notable availability by the Jan. 24 weekend, not necessarily a Jan. 24 premiere for every title.

The best new shows
The Night Agent, season 2 — Netflix
Netflix’s returning thriller is the week’s clearest binge choice. It is a new season rather than a new movie, so viewers should look for the season’s episode availability in Netflix rather than assume that every streaming arrival follows the same release pattern. The Netflix release-time guide explains the service’s general timing rules, but title-specific availability can still vary.
Prime Target — Apple TV+
Prime Target is the week’s Apple TV+ thriller arrival. It is best suited to viewers looking for an ongoing series rather than a completed film. Check the Apple TV+ listing for the number of available episodes and the release schedule before starting a planned binge.

Harlem season 3 and other weekly television titles were part of the broader January streaming conversation, but the available evidence does not establish a precise release position for this specific Jan. 18–24 window. They are therefore not treated here as confirmed arrivals for the week.
New movies to rent or buy
The following films appeared in the week’s video-on-demand listings. They should not be described as included with a general streaming subscription.
Rank #4
- The Google TV Streamer (4K) delivers your favorite entertainment quickly, easily, and personalized to you[1,2]
- HDMI 2.1 cable required (sold separately)
- See movies and TV shows from all your services right from your home screen[2]; and find new things to watch with tailored recommendations for everyone in your home based on their interests and viewing habits
- Watch live TV and access over 800 free channels from Pluto TV, Tubi, and more[3]; if you find an interesting show or movie on your TV, mobile app, or Google search, you can easily add it to your watchlist, so it’s ready when you are[2]
- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
- Nosferatu — A gothic horror film from Robert Eggers, and the best horror pick if you are willing to pay separately. Expect graphic violence and disturbing imagery. It was listed as VOD rather than a standard subscription title.
- Oh, Canada — A prestige drama available through VOD. It is a better choice for viewers seeking a serious, adult drama than for anyone looking for action or a conventional weekend crowd-pleaser.
- Eternal You — A documentary about digital avatars and attempts to recreate or preserve the presence of deceased loved ones. It is the most directly relevant technology-and-society documentary in the week’s VOD group.
- Sonic the Hedgehog 3 — A family-oriented action title listed for VOD access. It is the natural alternative to The Wild Robot for viewers who prefer a game-based franchise.
VOD availability means a one-time rental or purchase through a digital storefront, such as the Apple TV store. It is separate from an Apple TV+ subscription. Rental and purchase prices are not included because they change by storefront, title, and date.

Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat — Kino Film Collection
For DocumentaryTube readers, this is one of the most distinctive arrivals. The film connects political history and music, making it a strong choice for viewers who prefer documentary storytelling with cultural and international context. It is available through the specialty Kino Film Collection, rather than a mainstream general-purpose service.

Eternal You — VOD via Apple TV
Eternal You examines the promise and ethical complications of digital recreations of the dead. Choose it if you want a documentary that raises questions about grief, memory, technology, and whether an artificial likeness can meaningfully preserve a person.
The Girl with the Needle — MUBI
This historical drama is aimed at arthouse viewers and deals with poverty, historical trauma, and reproductive violence. It is a serious, disturbing choice rather than light entertainment. MUBI’s catalog and membership terms should be checked at MUBI.
The Colors — Le Cinéma Club
The Colors is a short or early film listed through Le Cinéma Club. Treat the service as a niche discovery destination, not a replacement for a mainstream subscription. Its appeal is strongest for viewers who actively seek international and independent cinema.
Other specialty and independent arrivals
The same U.S. roundup also listed The Disappearance of My Mother, Prey for Rock and Roll, Touch of Crude, Beauty Is Not a Sin, and The Here After. Their inclusion reflects the week’s wider specialty-film activity, but the available source does not provide equally clear service details for every title. Check the relevant catalog before planning a watch.
Quick picks by mood
- Best overall: The Wild Robot on Peacock.
- Best for families: The Wild Robot; Sonic the Hedgehog 3 if you prefer franchise action.
- Best action spectacle: Gladiator II on Paramount+ or MGM+.
- Best horror: Nosferatu if you are willing to rent or buy; Sleep if Hulu is already in your subscription mix.
- Best psychological thriller: Blink Twice on Prime Video.
- Best TV binge: The Night Agent season 2 on Netflix.
- Best documentary about technology: Eternal You.
- Best political and music documentary: Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat on Kino Film Collection.

How to choose without overspending
- Start with services you already pay for. The week’s strongest included options are spread across Peacock, Paramount+, MGM+, Prime Video, Hulu, Max, Netflix, and Apple TV+.
- Separate subscriptions from VOD. Nosferatu, Oh, Canada, Eternal You, and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 were identified as VOD options, not free additions to a general subscription.
- Check add-on status. MGM+ and specialty services such as MUBI and Kino Film Collection may require separate memberships or channel access.
- Compare one-time access with a full subscription. For a single film, a rental may be more practical; for several arthouse or documentary titles, a specialty catalog may offer better value. Current prices and trial terms should be checked directly.
All availability in this guide is U.S.-specific and reflects the streaming landscape around the weekend of Jan. 24, 2025. Services can remove titles, change plan requirements, or move a film between included streaming and paid access.
