Why these five are worth considering
Frankenstein: gothic spectacle and a classic story
For a dark, atmospheric film, Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation brings Mary Shelley’s tale to the screen with Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth. Netflix reported that the film reached No. 1 on its English-language film list with 29.1 million views in the week reported November 11, 2025. It appeared in the Top 10 in 93 countries and ranked No. 1 in 72. In the week reported November 18, it recorded 33.8 million views and a second week at No. 1 on the English-language film list. These are dated Netflix audience figures, not measures of artistic quality or current rankings. If you want to compare the adaptation with its source, reading Mary Shelley’s original Frankenstein is an optional companion.
The Beast in Me: a psychological thriller built around suspicion
Claire Danes plays Aggie Wiggs, a grieving author drawn to her new neighbor, Nile Jarvis, a real estate mogul played by Matthew Rhys who may be a murderer. Netflix’s November 18, 2025 report recorded 6.9 million views for the reported week and placed the limited series at No. 1 on its English-language TV list. Choose it for character-focused suspense rather than a straightforward crime procedural.
Stranger Things Season 5, Volume 1: the start of the final chapter
The first volume begins the series’ final season. Netflix’s guide describes Hawkins as quarantined and the group as searching for Vecna. Release timing was regional: Netflix listed November 26, 2025, in some regions and November 27 in others. It is the natural pick for viewers already invested in the show, rather than a standalone entry point.

A Merry Little Ex-Mas: seasonal comedy with a family reset
Alicia Silverstone and Oliver Hudson star as recently divorced parents navigating holiday plans and new relationships. In the week covered by Netflix’s November 18, 2025 report, the film earned 12.8 million views and ranked No. 2 on the English-language film list. It suits a lighter holiday watch better than the darker dramas elsewhere on this list.
Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2: competition, not drama
This unscripted reality competition brings 456 new contestants into games inspired by Squid Game. Netflix’s annual 2025 guide lists its release as November 4. Its premise borrows from the fictional series, but the format is a reality contest rather than a continuation of the scripted story.
