On December 26, 2023, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, posted a Hebrew-language apology to the Jewish community on Instagram. The Associated Press (AP) reported an English translation that expressed regret for “any unintended outburst” and “any pain I may have caused.” The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) called it a possible first step; the American Jewish Committee (AJC) criticized its accessibility and wording. The post was one moment in a longer, continuing chronology—not evidence that the apology was accepted by Jewish people as a whole or that Ye’s conduct changed.
What did Ye say in the apology?
Ye’s December 26 post was written in Hebrew. The AP reported this English rendering of the statement:

These are the AP’s English translations of the Hebrew post, not words Ye posted in English. The phrasing expresses regret, but qualifies the apology with “any unintended outburst” and “any pain I may have caused.” The AP’s report provides the translated wording.
How did Jewish organizations respond?
The ADL and AJC offered distinct assessments. Their statements reflect the organizations’ views, not a single, shared response from Jewish people.

- 50 Cent - Get Rich Or Die Tr Brazil Import
| Organization | Response |
|---|---|
| ADL | The ADL described the statement as a possible first step toward making amends, while stressing that actions would matter more than words. The AP quoted it saying, “Ultimately, actions will speak louder than words but this initial act of contrition is welcome.” |
| AJC | The AJC objected that a Hebrew-language statement without a translation was inaccessible to most American Jews who do not speak Hebrew. It also criticized the phrase “any pain I may have caused” as not directly acknowledging the harm. |
The AP reported both organizations’ reactions. The difference was not simply whether an apology was welcome: the ADL allowed for it to be an initial gesture, while the AJC focused on whether the message could reach its intended audience and clearly name the harm.
What came before the apology?
The AP reported that the apology came less than two weeks after an antisemitic rant in Las Vegas while Ye was promoting Vultures. Contemporary coverage also placed the post near the album’s planned release. The Guardian connected the episode to Ye’s earlier 2022 antisemitic remarks, including a post saying he would go “death con 3” on Jewish people.

No. The December 2023 statement was not his last public apology. The AJC’s explainer records intervening apologies as well as subsequent antisemitic conduct, including the May 2025 release of “Heil Hitler.” In January 2026, Ye published a full-page advertisement in The Wall Street Journal addressed to people he had hurt. Jewish Telegraphic Agency reported that the statement said, “I lost touch with reality,” and attributed his conduct to a manic episode.

That later statement belongs to a separate point in the chronology; it does not show by itself that Ye’s behavior changed. For the 2023 post, the clearest account remains the AP’s translated text and the sharply different reactions recorded at the time.
Jewish Telegraphic Agency’s January 26, 2026 report covers the advertisement apology. The AJC’s explainer, updated in 2026, summarizes the broader sequence of remarks and responses.
