The night drew a sold-out crowd and enthusiastic reactions, alongside complaints about delays, smoke, visibility, and the format. “Fans still believe” captures some attendees’ loyalty; the available accounts do not establish it as a majority view.
What the Chicago premiere was
The United Center billed the event as the ¥$ Vultures Listening Experience, an advance album-release party and listening experience with Ye, Ty Dolla $ign, and album collaborators. It was scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2024, in Chicago. The venue described a high-fidelity audio and visual showcase; that was promotional language, not an independent assessment of the production. United Center event listing

The format matters: attendees were there to hear the album played, with Ye and Ty Dolla $ign onstage, rather than to see a standard set of live-sung songs. Some of the criticism later posted by attendees reflects that difference in expectations. Ticketmaster event reviews
When it started—and what happened onstage
The United Center advertised gates at 7:30 p.m. and a 9 p.m. start. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that production delays pushed the doors to 9 p.m. and that the show began a little after 10 p.m. The newspaper described Ye and Ty Dolla $ign on a smoke-filled stage while the album played over speakers. Why the livestream ending drew attention
The Sun-Times reported that the Veeps livestream screen went black after Ye began a lyric referencing antisemitism. It attributed the abrupt cutoff to reports by other outlets. XXL also reported that the event ended after the lyric and said “venue restrictions” were given as the reported reason. The cited accounts do not establish an official explanation from the venue, so the reported cause should not be treated as confirmed. Chicago Sun-Times event report XXL event account

Contemporary coverage captured a tension: some attendees remained invested in Ye despite controversy around his public statements, while other reactions focused on the event’s shortcomings. Ticketmaster reviews posted around February 11, 2024 include praise as well as complaints about smoke, sightlines, lateness, and Ye not singing conventionally. These are individual reviews, not a representative survey. Ticketmaster event reviews

So the most defensible reading of the headline is narrow: some fans’ continued belief was visible in their attendance and comments, but the event accounts document mixed reactions, not a consensus. For some, the night also carried the significance of a hometown appearance; for others, the delayed start, smoke, poor visibility, or album-listening format fell short of concert expectations.
