What did Winona Ryder say happened?
In an Esquire interview published August 29, 2024, Ryder spoke about past experiences of sexual harassment. Us Weekly reproduced her description: “I had a couple of difficult experiences with a couple of people who were just blatantly sexually harassing me.”
She said the behavior happened again in her 30s: “It wasn’t an assault. But it was incredibly inappropriate. It was wild.” Those are Ryder’s descriptions of her experiences, not a legal finding.
How did she describe the impact?
Ryder said she was “lucky” that the behavior happened less because she was known. She also described mentally weighing whether to say something while someone was behaving creepily, and said she had become accustomed to brushing off inappropriate advances. Of unwanted touching, she said: “Inappropriate? I dealt with that. But touching me? It felt very invasive.”
