But the platform’s year-end retrospective names creators behind four viral routines, while TikTok Japan documents two more dance trends in its music roundup. Here is a sourced selection—not a ranked chart—of dances and dance-associated trends from the year, with the originators and regional limits made clear.
Documented TikTok dances from 2022
TikTok’s year-end retrospective credited specific creators as originators for these four viral dances. The platform’s attribution offers a useful way to find the routines and recognize the people who created them.
| Song | Artist | Originator named by TikTok |
|---|---|---|
| “About Damn Time” | Lizzo | Jaeden Gomez (@jaedengomezz) |
| “34 + 35” | Ariana Grande | Jaeden Gomez (@jaedengomezz) |
| “Conceited” | Flo Milli | Kara Leigh Cannella (@karaleighcannella) |
| “Cry Baby” | Megan Thee Stallion | Kara Leigh Cannella (@karaleighcannella) |
TikTok’s wording calls these creators the originators of the respective viral dances; it does not publish a dance-by-dance view count or a global popularity rank. TikTok’s 2022 retrospective is the source for these attributions.
Dance trends documented by TikTok Japan
“PAKU” — asmi
TikTok Japan says “PAKU” went viral together with its choreography. In its domestic roundup, the song ranked first for video creations. That is evidence of a strong Japanese TikTok trend, not a global dance ranking.

“WA DA DA” — Kep1er
TikTok Japan describes “WA DA DA” as a dance trend that went viral globally and includes it among the songs most shared in Japan. This supports calling it a globally noticed trend, but not the most popular dance worldwide.
The Japanese rankings cover domestic data from January 1 through November 30, 2022. TikTok Japan reports distinct categories—including most played songs, songs used in videos, most liked songs, and most shared songs—so a position in one category should not be treated as a result in another. See TikTok Japan’s 2022 music chart retrospective for the scope and categories.

Popular sounds are not automatically dance rankings
TikTok’s broader year-end roundups also highlighted sounds such as “Jiggle Jiggle,” “Me Porto Bonito,” and “About Damn Time.” Those lists mix different kinds of trends rather than ranking dances alone. TikTok placed “Jiggle Jiggle” first in its US trends list and second in its listed global trends; it described “Me Porto Bonito” as the most popular of Bad Bunny’s many trending songs that year. Those placements describe the roundups’ trend or sound categories, not a measured dance leaderboard. TikTok’s year-end pages provide that broader context.
How to choose a dance to follow
- Want a routine with a named originator? Start with one of the four dances TikTok directly attributes to Jaeden Gomez or Kara Leigh Cannella.
- Interested in trends beyond US-focused examples? Explore “PAKU” for a documented Japan-specific chart result, or “WA DA DA” for TikTok Japan’s description of a global dance trend.
- Looking for a particular difficulty level? The cited sources do not assess choreography difficulty, so they cannot establish which routine is easiest. Watch the original creator’s video and judge the movements for yourself before trying it.
Why creator credit belongs with the trend
Dance challenges often travel farther than their original posts. Naming creators when the attribution is documented makes it easier to trace a routine and gives credit to the people who made it. A later TIME report on the “No Love” challenge described Jordyn Williams posting its original dance in November 2022 and her concerns about receiving credit as the challenge spread. That report is relevant context about attribution, not evidence that “No Love” held a particular 2022 popularity rank.
