The reported royal connection was a shared Grease dance reference—not a royal guest or a formal link to royalty. Reports said Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s first dance drew on Grease and Dirty Dancing, echoing a reported dance by Prince William and Catherine at their 2011 wedding.
What was the connection?
Entertainment outlet Wedport reported that Gomez and Blanco’s first dance included moves inspired by Grease and Dirty Dancing. Wedport compared the Grease element with a reported moment at Prince William and Catherine’s 2011 wedding, when they danced to “You’re the One That I Want” from the musical. The link is a resemblance in dance and song choice, as described in reporting—not evidence that the royal couple attended Gomez and Blanco’s wedding or that the newlyweds have a formal relationship to the royal family.
Wedport attributes its account of Gomez and Blanco’s reception to Us Weekly, and its description of the royal couple’s dance to Robert Jobson’s biography of Catherine. The underlying Us Weekly report and the book passage were not independently checked, so the dance details are best treated as reported rather than confirmed firsthand.
