Its Hall H appearance introduced the project and its cast, but offered few plot details.
What was Project K?
Project K was the working name used for Kalki 2898 AD before its title reveal at San Diego Comic-Con on July 20, 2023. In the lead-up to the Hall H presentation, billboards and shirts posed the question, “What is Project K?” The answer was a large-scale Indian science-fiction film, not a separate franchise or a different movie. Gizmodo’s Comic-Con report covered the reveal.
Who is in Kalki 2898 AD?
The 2023 reveal named five principal stars: Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Kamal Haasan, and Disha Patani. Nag Ashwin directed the film, which was produced by Vyjayanthi Movies.
What is the film about?
At the Comic-Con panel, the filmmakers kept plot specifics close, so the event itself did not provide a full synopsis. A later description from Amazon India places the story in a post-apocalyptic world in 2898 AD, where nature has vanished and darkness prevails. It describes Kalki as a modern-day avatar of Vishnu, believed to have descended to protect the world from evil forces. These details come from the later synopsis, not from the 2023 reveal. Amazon India’s announcement provides that description.
When did it come out, and where can you watch it?
The film’s official website gives June 27, 2024, as its release date. Amazon India announced a Prime Video premiere for August 22, 2024, in India and more than 240 countries and territories. The announcement listed Telugu as the original language, with Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam dubs and English subtitles.
Those are the terms of the 2024 announcement, not confirmation that the film is currently available in every country or with the same audio and subtitle options. Check your local Prime Video catalog for current access and language tracks; catalog details can differ by market. The Prime Video listing identifies the film and its cast and director, and gives a runtime of 2 hours 55 minutes; catalog metadata may vary by country.
