Its two headline releases were Wolf Man, Leigh Whannell’s take on a Universal monster, and One of Them Days, a Keke Palmer-and-SZA comedy. The lineup also included a historical drama, a journalism thriller, a romance, a documentary filmed inside a video game, and anniversary screenings of The Goonies.
Which movies were in the January 17, 2025 theatrical roundup?
The list below reflects a Collider-attributed excerpt republished by HeadTopics on January 17, 2025. Its release and screening details are historical; they do not establish what is playing now. The excerpt’s embedded release metadata is not fully consistent with its weekend framing, so treat the date as the roundup’s publication context rather than independent confirmation of every film’s release date.
| Film | What the excerpt describes | Scale or timing noted then |
|---|---|---|
| Wolf Man | Leigh Whannell’s Universal monster story, starring Christopher Abbott, about a family attacked by a creature after a vehicle accident and Blake’s transformation. | Presented as a theatrical release; runtime and rating in the excerpt are not treated here as verified. |
| One of Them Days | A comedy directed by Lawrence Lamont and written by Syreeta Singleton, starring Keke Palmer and SZA. Two friends scramble to replace rent money they believe one friend’s boyfriend stole. | Presented as a theatrical release. |
| I’m Still Here | Walter Salles’s historical drama about the Paiva family amid Brazil’s military dictatorship, with Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro named in the cast. | Release timing was described secondhand. |
| September 5 | A thriller about an ABC Sports crew covering the hostage crisis at the 1972 Munich Olympics, directed by Tim Fehlbaum. | The excerpt said it was expanding to a wide release that weekend; that is a historical claim. |
| Wish You Were Here | Julia Stiles’s directorial debut, adapted from Renée Carlino’s novel: a romance drama about a woman whose new love interest has a terminal illness. | The exact release date is not established here. |
| Grand Theft Hamlet | A documentary following two out-of-work actors staging Hamlet inside Grand Theft Auto Online during the Covid-19 pandemic. | The excerpt reported select-theater engagements beginning Friday; those showtimes have passed. |
| The Goonies | The 1985 adventure film. | The excerpt reported select 40th-anniversary screenings on Sunday and Monday. |
What is the Universal monster makeover?
It is Wolf Man, identified in the excerpt as the latest entry in the Universal Classic Monster universe. Christopher Abbott plays Blake, whose family’s ordeal begins after a vehicle accident and an attack by a creature. The description points to a horror story in which the threat is bound up with Blake’s transformation, rather than simply a creature-on-the-loose premise.
The excerpt lists a 103-minute runtime and an R rating, but its release metadata is inconsistent and it is a secondary-source reprint. Those specifics should not be relied on as verified classification or distributor information.

What is Keke Palmer’s comedy about?
One of Them Days pairs Keke Palmer and SZA as friends facing a rent emergency: they try to replace money they believe one friend’s boyfriend stole before eviction. The excerpt calls it a comedy and identifies Lawrence Lamont as director and Syreeta Singleton as writer. The tabloid-style “raunch” wording in the archived headline is not a substitute for a more precise account of the film’s plot or content.
Which entry is the documentary?
Grand Theft Hamlet is the documentary in this group. According to the excerpt, it follows two actors who were out of work during the Covid-19 pandemic as they attempt to stage Shakespeare’s Hamlet inside Grand Theft Auto Online. Its game-world setting is central to the premise, but the film is a documentary—not a guide to the game, and the game is not required to watch it.
