It combined a veteran television host and outside news contributors with a streaming platform, but the available evidence describes a single special—not an ongoing Amazon news service. Prime Video’s event listing currently says the video is unavailable.
What was Amazon’s live election coverage?
Election Night Live with Brian Williams was a live election-results and analysis special announced by Amazon and production company White Cherry Entertainment. It was scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Eastern / 2 p.m. Pacific on November 5, 2024. Amazon presented the event as a new live format for Prime Video.
Amazon said the program would feature Williams alongside guests from news and traditional media, offering varied perspectives and referring to third-party news sources across political affiliations. Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner were named as producers; Jonathan Wald was executive producer and showrunner, and Weiss was also to direct. These were the announced credits and format, not evidence of a continuing newsroom.
How were results and reporting handled?
In its October 28, 2024 preview, the Associated Press reported that Amazon had contracted with the AP for video and Reuters for results data. AP also reported that Amazon would not operate its own decision desk: the broadcast would discuss when other news organizations called individual states. That distinction matters. Amazon hosted the program, but the reported sourcing arrangement relied on established outside organizations rather than an Amazon decision operation.

AP described the production as a temporary, one-night news division assembled by Williams and Wald. In its October 17 launch report, AP said Amazon described the event as one-night-only for both Prime Video and Williams. The reporting supports calling it Amazon’s first live news-streaming attempt; it does not establish that the special led to a regular news operation.
Who was Brian Williams, and what did he say about the event?
Williams brought decades of broadcast experience to the special. AP reports that he anchored NBC Nightly News from 2004 to 2015 and hosted MSNBC’s The 11th Hour from 2016 until leaving in 2021. The special was not his first election coverage; it was a new platform for a veteran broadcaster.
In Amazon’s October 17 announcement, Williams described the move as “the next big thing” after 41 years in local, network, and cable news, and said the global marketplace of Amazon was a natural home for the venture. Prime Video executive Albert Cheng called it a “one-night-only Election Night special event” and said the service offered programming intended to delight, inform, and engage customers. Those statements reflect the participants’ framing of the event.
Who could watch it, and where is it available now?
Amazon said the special would be available in English to customers in most countries where Prime Video operated, whether or not they had a Prime membership. GeekWire’s contemporaneous November 5 report likewise described the stream as open to non-Prime viewers.

Prime Video’s event listing identifies the program as a November 5, 2024 event and summarizes its promised real-time results and guest commentary. The listing currently displays: “This video is currently unavailable.” That is the status of this listing; it does not establish that no copy exists elsewhere. The available reporting does not confirm a complete public archive or provide audience figures.

Amazon’s announcement also pointed viewers to free news channels in Prime Video’s Live TV tab, including ABC News Live, CBS News 24/7, CNN Headlines, LiveNOW from FOX, NBC News Now, Noticias Univision 24/7, Reuters, and The Washington Post Television. Those were separate channel offerings—not the Brian Williams special.

The key distinction is between a one-night event produced for Prime Video and channels that carry their own news programming. Amazon’s announcement describes the special’s access and guest format; AP’s reporting details the outside video and results sources and the absence of an Amazon decision desk. Neither source establishes a lasting Amazon election-news operation.
