Vivian Jenna Wilson, Elon Musk’s daughter, publicly rejected his account of her childhood in July 2024, saying he had not been present and had harassed her for her femininity and queerness when he was. Her response came after Musk discussed her in an interview with Jordan Peterson and in posts on X. The exchange made their estrangement widely visible, but Wilson had sought to sever their legal relationship two years earlier.
Who is Elon Musk’s daughter, and what did she say?
Vivian Jenna Wilson is Musk’s daughter. She has described herself as estranged from him. In July 2024, she disputed his portrayal of her childhood in posts on Threads. Wilson said he did not know what she was like as a child because, in her account, he was not there. She also said that when he was present, he had harassed her over her femininity and queerness. Those are Wilson’s claims about her own family history; news coverage of the exchange does not independently establish what happened in private.
The Washington Post quoted Wilson’s Threads post: “He doesn’t know what I was like as a child because he quite simply wasn’t there.” The Washington Post’s account of the exchange also reported Musk’s July 2024 comments.
Why did Wilson distance herself from Musk?
Wilson’s decision to change her name and distance herself from her biological father predates the 2024 dispute. In April 2022, she filed a petition to change her name. The Washington Post quoted the petition’s explanation: “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form.” The petition establishes what Wilson asked the court for and what she stated in it; it does not, by itself, verify the private history behind her decision.

Musk’s remarks
In July 2024, Musk spoke about Wilson in an interview with Jordan Peterson and made additional comments on X. The Washington Post and Them covered his remarks and Wilson’s response. Musk’s characterization of their relationship and childhood should be understood as his account, not as an independently verified description.
Wilson’s response
Wilson responded on Threads, rejecting Musk’s account of her childhood and describing him as absent and, when present, as having harassed her for her femininity and queerness. Them’s coverage reported that she called his account “entirely fake.” The two public accounts conflict; the cited reporting documents what each said, rather than resolving private events between them.

March 2025: estrangement and public attention
In a March 20, 2025 interview with Teen Vogue, Wilson discussed her relationship with Musk, her life and public attention, as well as trans youth. Teen Vogue described her as estranged and said she had previously given NBC News her first interview, making this her second. Wilson also said she had not earned money from being famous: “I haven’t made any money from being famous at all. The same Teen Vogue story reported a Trevor Project survey finding that 39% of trans and nonbinary youth surveyed in California had seriously considered suicide in the previous year and 14% had attempted it. Those figures describe that survey’s respondents, not all trans youth, and say nothing about Wilson’s personal mental health.
June 2025: reaction to Musk and Trump
On June 7, 2025, Teen Vogue reported Wilson’s social-media reaction, including a meme, to the public falling-out between Musk and Donald Trump. The report records that reaction; it does not establish a change in Wilson’s relationship with her father. Teen Vogue reported on Wilson’s June 2025 response.
