The show behind the 2022 “#1 on Netflix” headline is Extraordinary Attorney Woo, a Korean-language courtroom drama about a rookie lawyer on the autism spectrum. Netflix reported that it topped its Global Top 10 Non-English TV chart in 2022; that historic ranking does not mean it is Netflix’s number-one show today. And “everyone is saying the same thing” is headline framing, not a measured audience consensus.
Which show is the headline about?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo follows Woo Young-woo as she begins work at a law firm and takes on legal cases. Netflix describes her as a young attorney on the autism spectrum who faces challenges at work. The series stars Park Eun-bin, Kang Tae-oh, and Kang Ki-young; Yoo In-sik and Moon Ji-won are credited as its creators. Netflix’s title page provides the official description and cast information.
The show’s central character is autistic, but one fictional character cannot represent the full range of autistic people or experiences. The series is a drama, not medical guidance.
What did “#1 on Netflix” mean?
It referred to a particular chart and period, not an all-time or permanent position. On July 20, 2022, Netflix said the series had been number one on its Global Top 10 Non-English TV chart for two consecutive weeks. On August 23, Netflix reported it at number one on that chart for the week covered by its report. These were historical rankings in the non-English television category, not proof that the show currently leads every Netflix chart. Netflix’s July 2022 report and its August 2022 report provide the dated context.

How many hours did Netflix report?
In its August 23, 2022 report, Netflix listed 77.43 million hours viewed for Extraordinary Attorney Woo in the reported week. The same report said the series had accumulated 341.46 million hours on Netflix’s Most Popular list at that time. Both are Netflix-reported figures tied to those 2022 chart contexts; they are not current totals or independently audited audience counts. Netflix’s report contains the figures.
Why chart category and date matter
A ranking only makes sense alongside its category, geography, reporting week, and metric. A global non-English TV position is different from a country chart, an English-language list, or a film ranking. For example, Netflix also reported that the series was number one on its Philippines chart for the week of August 1–7, 2022. That country-specific result is not evidence of a present-day worldwide ranking. Netflix’s Philippines chart shows the regional context.
Netflix’s chart methodology also changed over time. In June 2023, it began ranking weekly lists by views while continuing to report hours viewed. As a result, a views-based ranking and an hours-viewed figure are not interchangeable. When comparing Netflix chart claims, check the list type, reporting period, location, and metric together. Netflix’s Top 10 methodology explains how its lists are presented.

The headline does not identify a verified consensus or a specific audience survey. Netflix’s July 2022 report quotes screenwriter Moon Ji-won describing the cases this way: “Once she takes on a case, it takes a turn that viewers could not have seen before anywhere else.” That statement conveys the writer’s intended appeal—the cases take unexpected turns—but it is not evidence that all viewers share one opinion.
