The Season 5, Volume 2 trailer suggests the Hawkins group has misunderstood something fundamental about the Upside Down—but it does not reveal exactly what. Its key clue is Dustin saying they were “dead wrong” about it, alongside previews of Eleven seeking Eight’s help against Vecna and Steve and Dustin reuniting.
What does Dustin mean by “dead wrong”?
In its description of the trailer, Forbes reports that Dustin admits the group had been “dead wrong” about the Upside Down. The line signals that their existing understanding is mistaken, not merely that they have overlooked a small detail.
The trailer also presents the Upside Down in a changed or unfamiliar form, according to GamesRadar. Together, the unfamiliar imagery and Dustin’s remark frame the place itself as the mystery. Neither report provides a full official transcript or an explanation from a named person that settles what the characters got wrong.
What the trailer shows beyond the Upside Down clue
Eleven asks Eight for help
GamesRadar characterizes the trailer as showing Eleven asking Eight to help defeat Vecna. That establishes a character beat and a possible alliance; it does not, by itself, explain what Eight’s role will be or how the plan will work.

Steve and Dustin reunite
GamesRadar reproduces Steve and Dustin’s exchange as: “If you die, I die.” The line presents their reunion as an expression of loyalty, but the reported dialogue does not confirm what danger they face or what happens next.
What is confirmed—and what remains speculation
- Confirmed by the cited trailer reporting: Dustin says the group was “dead wrong” about the Upside Down; the trailer depicts it in an unfamiliar form; Eleven seeks Eight’s help against Vecna; and Steve and Dustin reunite.
- Not established by that reporting: the precise mistaken assumption, a complete explanation of how the Upside Down works, or the outcome of any character’s plan.
- Speculation: any claim that the clue proves a particular origin, timeline, connection to another world, or hidden rule. The trailer invites theories, but the cited coverage does not confirm one.
When did Volume 2 and the finale arrive?
Forbes and GamesRadar reported the original schedule as three Volume 2 episodes on December 25, 2025, followed by the series finale on December 31, 2025. Those dates are historical; they describe the announced release schedule, not an upcoming release.
