Taka is the character who becomes Scar, but the film presents their bond as something that develops through shared experience—not as a relationship the trailer fully explains.
What does the trailer reveal about Mufasa and Scar?
Disney’s official trailer describes the film as “the epic story of how an orphan became a King.” Its central premise is that Mufasa begins as a cub who is lost and alone before meeting Taka, heir to a royal bloodline. In the film’s story, Taka is Mufasa’s brother figure and later becomes Scar.
The official synopsis places the tale inside a frame narrative: Rafiki tells Mufasa’s legend to Kiara through flashbacks. That makes the trailer’s brotherhood framing part of a story being recounted, rather than a complete account of every step in the brothers’ relationship. Disney’s official trailer and the Disney+ synopsis establish those elements.
How do Mufasa and Taka become brothers?
D23’s description says Taka “accepts Mufasa into his family as a brother.” The emphasis is on belonging: Mufasa is an orphan without a place in the world, while Taka is born into royalty. Their bond begins when Taka brings him into his family, not because they share a bloodline.

The Associated Press describes their relationship as growing from camaraderie into brotherhood, with the journey testing their loyalty. That progression matters: the trailer introduces the bond, while the film’s premise points toward a relationship shaped by what the two cubs face together. AP’s report also connects the journey to how Taka becomes Scar, but the trailer alone does not supply a full explanation of that transformation. D23’s first-look and casting report and the Associated Press report provide that context.
Is Taka the same character as Scar?
Yes. In this origin story, Taka is the name used for the character who becomes Scar. The trailer and official materials use Taka to identify him in his earlier life, when he is Mufasa’s companion and brother figure. That framing should not be mistaken for a claim that the brothers’ entire history is covered in the trailer.

It is also useful to separate this film’s account from assumptions carried over from earlier Lion King material. Here, the official synopsis starts with Mufasa as an orphan and Taka as the heir to a royal bloodline; D23 specifically describes Taka accepting Mufasa into his family. The available official description establishes the premise, while AP characterizes the bond’s development and the loyalty test.
Who made the film, and who voices the brothers?
Barry Jenkins directed Mufasa: The Lion King. Aaron Pierre voices Mufasa, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. voices Taka. Disney describes the production as combining live-action filmmaking techniques with photoreal computer-generated imagery. In AP’s pre-release report, Harrison Jr. said of Taka: “There was a bit of Taka resting on the privilege that he was supposed to be afforded.” The comment offers an attributed glimpse of how the actor viewed Taka’s royal status, rather than a complete account of the character’s arc.
