A January 2023 report about The Marvels relayed several unverified plot rumors, including a musical sequence and Flerken kittens aboard a spacecraft. It did not establish that Marvel Studios had planned a major crossover: the report said the film’s full plot was unknown and its connection to Secret Invasion was unclear.
What the January 2023 report claimed
BGR’s January 4, 2023 article appeared months before The Marvels premiered. It assembled claims from several online leakers and a fan forum; none of the plot details described below was presented as an official Marvel Studios synopsis.

A musical planet and a possible marriage
The report attributed to leaker Daniel Richtman a sequence involving a planet where people communicate through song, along with a claim that Carol Danvers was married to the planet’s leader. It also cited MyTimeToShineHello’s post: “Yes it’s true The Marvels is a musical (in parts).” That was a leaker’s assertion, not confirmation from the studio. BGR’s January 2023 report relayed these claims.
Flerken kittens on a spacecraft
The article repeated a purported plot description posted to the MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit: a spacecraft comes under attack, and Flerken kittens rescue people by swallowing them and transporting them. This, too, was an unverified reported leak—not a confirmed scene description. The report did not establish whether the account was accurate.

Comedy, Maria Rambeau, and a disputed character rumor
A separate claim attributed to CineStealth characterized the movie as a comedy with heightened comic sequences and suggested Maria Rambeau might return. Another rumor identified Zawe Ashton’s character as Ael-Dan, but accounts disagreed about the character’s backstory. The disagreement is a reason to treat both the name and proposed history as rumor, rather than settled character information. BGR’s coverage and the underlying report reflect that uncertainty.
Did the leak confirm a major MCU crossover?
No. The report’s crossover framing was speculative. It noted that Samuel L. Jackson appeared as Nick Fury in both The Marvels and the series Secret Invasion, but said it did not have enough information to explain how the projects connected. A shared character does not by itself confirm a crossover plan, and the report did not provide one. Read the report’s caveat.

What later coverage established about the film
A November 2023 BGR guide described The Marvels as a sequel to Captain Marvel and identified its central trio as Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris), and Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani). It also named Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) among the returning characters. The guide mentioned Zawe Ashton and Park Seo-joon without fully disclosing their character details. These are details from secondary reporting, not a basis for confirming the earlier leak claims. BGR’s November 2023 guide.

- The musical-planet, Flerken, and character-backstory claims were attributed to leakers or a forum post, not Marvel Studios.
- The January 2023 article expressly said it did not know the full plot or how the film related to Secret Invasion.
- The later guide identifies the movie’s three central heroes, but does not validate the earlier rumors.
BGR’s later guide said the film became available on Disney+ after its theatrical window. That is historical context only; it does not establish whether the title is currently available in a particular country. Check the Disney+ catalogue for your region for current availability. BGR’s guide.
