U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian allowed additional sex-trafficking evidence tied to alleged “freak-offs” in Sean “Diddy” Combs’s trial, but excluded forced-labor allegations involving one of Combs’s employees. The April 25, 2025 decision was a split ruling on pretrial evidence motions; it did not establish whether the allegations were true.

The case was United States v. Combs, 1:24-cr-00542, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. The ruling concerned what evidence could be presented, not a finding that any allegation had been proved.
Why the defense objected
The defense objected to allegations in a government filing made at 11:15 p.m. on April 20, 2025. According to Us Weekly’s April 29 report, the filing came 78 days after the court deadline and 15 days before the scheduled start of jury selection. The defense argued it had too little time to investigate and respond, and asked to postpone the trial.
Prosecutors disputed the defense’s position, saying it had time to address discovery related to the “freak-off” claims. In their response, prosecutors called the defense letter motion “a transparent attempt to narrow the scope of the proof against him at trial by any means necessary, and to yet again make a last-ditch effort to secure an adjournment of trial.” That was the prosecution’s characterization, not a statement or finding by the judge.

What the written order says about the decision
The court held the conference on April 25, 2025, and issued its written order on April 29. The order in United States v. Combs says the pending motions in limine were resolved for the reasons stated on the record at the conference. It does not reproduce those oral reasons.
The order also says that reserved evidentiary issues would be addressed when the court reviewed proposed exhibits and testimony. Because the detailed conference reasoning is not set out in the written order, the ruling should not be read as a broader approval or rejection of every disputed piece of evidence.

What the ruling does—and does not—decide
- It allowed additional sex-trafficking evidence tied to alleged “freak-offs” while excluding the employee-related forced-labor allegations at issue.
