Footage shown to CinemaCon attendees in 2025 put the Silver Surfer at the center of The Fantastic Four: First Steps’s looming threat: she tells the team that Earth has been marked for death. The preview also links that danger to Sue Storm’s pregnancy, Reed Richards’s guilt over the team’s space journey, and Galactus’s shadow falling across New York.
This is a report of footage described by Germain Lussier at Gizmodo’s io9 on April 3, 2025—not a confirmation of the finished film’s complete plot.
What did the new Fantastic Four footage show?
The CinemaCon preview reportedly opens with a television program, The Ted Gilbert Show, introducing the Fantastic Four and recalling their trip into space. A brief shot shows the Thing pulling a large boat into the harbor.
The footage then shifts to the team’s family life. Reed Richards and Sue Storm arrive late to a family dinner, where Johnny Storm teases them. Sue’s pregnancy is revealed; Johnny celebrates the news but jokes that Reed may not make a good father. Sue reassures Reed: “Nothing is going to change,” and “We can do this.”

What does the Silver Surfer say in First Steps?
Meteors fill the sky before the Silver Surfer confronts the team. She asks whether the Four are Earth’s protectors. Reed says they are, and she warns that the planet has been marked for death. The preview report identifies Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer and Ralph Ineson as Galactus.
Reed later connects the danger to the team’s exploration, saying, “I stretched the bounds of space and they heard.” That line presents Reed’s belief in the footage; the report does not establish it as a fuller explanation of the film’s story. Galactus is suggested in another ominous image, as his shadow covers New York City.

How does the preview connect the threat to the Four’s family?
Sue’s pregnancy gives the cosmic danger a personal dimension in the scenes described: Reed and Sue are preparing for a child as the Silver Surfer warns that Earth faces destruction. When a reporter asks whether people are safe at a press conference, Reed answers, “I don’t know.” He then works through calculations and tells Sue he will not give up.
The family theme returns as the danger escalates. The Silver Surfer rises through lava, and Sue says the family will face the threat together. The footage reportedly ends amid rubble, with a girl reaching for a toy Thing as a large rock falls. Reed promises, “We will protect you.”
