Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior is a five-episode Investigation Discovery docuseries about Maryland killer Hadden Clark. It combines prison interviews and family accounts with discussion of Clark’s confessions, but the Maryland appellate record establishes convictions for two murders—not every crime or unsolved case raised in the series.
What is Born Evil about?
The five-part series examines Clark’s childhood and family history, his crimes, and the confessions he reportedly made in prison. Warner Bros. Discovery announced the five-hour production for Investigation Discovery, with a premiere date of September 2, 2024. The Warner Bros. Discovery announcement says executive producer Michael Bay interviewed Clark in prison. The HBO Max Press Room description identifies interviews with Clark’s brother Geoff and former cellmate Jack Truitt, to whom Clark reportedly made confessions.
Bay’s announcement describes Clark as “a person of interest” in more than 20 states, attributing that characterization to the FBI. That is Bay’s statement in the release; the cited court record does not independently establish an FBI finding or document convictions in those states. Confessions and investigative leads featured by the series should likewise be understood as claims attributed to Clark or as topics explored by the program unless independently corroborated.
What crimes was Hadden Clark convicted of?
The Maryland appellate opinion, Clark v. State, records two murder cases. In 1993, Clark pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Laura Houghteling and received a 30-year prison sentence. In October 1999, he was convicted of the second-degree murder of six-year-old Michelle Dorr.

Dorr’s body had not been found by the time of Clark’s conviction. The opinion says that on January 7, 2000, after choosing to cooperate with Montgomery County authorities, Clark led police to her grave in a wooded ravine near Route 29 in Silver Spring. The Clark v. State opinion was filed September 26, 2001, and addresses Clark’s appeal of the Dorr conviction and issues raised at trial.
The opinion spells the child’s name “Michelle” and notes that newspapers often used “Michele.” Those spellings refer to the same victim, not separate people. The opinion establishes the Houghteling and Dorr convictions; it does not establish other murders that may be discussed in the docuseries.

Who is Jack Truitt in the series?
Truitt is identified in the series publicity as Clark’s former cellmate. Warner Bros. Discovery and the HBO Max description say he is interviewed about confessions Clark reportedly made to him. Those are accounts presented as part of the series, not additional convictions documented in the Maryland appellate opinion.
How many episodes are there?
Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior has five episodes. HBO Max’s press-room description presents it as a five-episode series, while Warner Bros. Discovery’s 2024 release calls it a five-hour docuseries. The figures describe the program’s episode count and announced total length, not a statistical study.

Where can you watch Born Evil?
Disney+ and Apple TV have listings for the series, but streaming catalogs vary by country and can change. Check the current catalog in your region rather than assuming a listing means the show is available everywhere. Apple TV’s US listing names episode five “Lady of the Dunes” and describes investigators taking Clark and Truitt on trips to pursue bodies and clues; that listing is episode metadata, not independent confirmation of the claims explored in the episode.

No. Adrian Havill’s Born Evil: A True Story of Cannibalism and Serial Murder is a separate true-crime book, listed by Google Books as published by St. Martin’s Publishing Group on February 24, 2026, at 288 pages. The listing refers to the five-part docuseries, but the shared title phrase does not establish that the book and series have identical content.
