The Biden for President campaign’s “seasoned meme lord” was a real 2024 job listing: a full-time, on-site Partner Manager, Content and Meme Pages in Wilmington, Delaware, with an advertised annual salary of $65,000–$85,000. The role was about building relationships with digital media companies, podcasters and meme pages—not simply making jokes for social media.
What did the Biden campaign’s meme job involve?
The campaign wanted someone to manage outreach and engagement opportunities with online media partners. The official listing described responsibilities that included:
- Cultivating relationships with digital media companies, podcasters and meme pages across social platforms.
- Identifying and securing opportunities for campaign engagement with those partners.
- Coordinating the work with internal campaign teams.
That remit made the role a partnership and communications job. The headline’s “meme lord” was a playful label; the formal title was Partner Manager, Content and Meme Pages.
What were the role’s location, pay and qualifications?
The 2024 posting described a full-time, on-site position in Wilmington, Delaware, and listed a salary range of $65,000–$85,000 a year. It preferred candidates with 2–4 years of experience in video, media or entertainment working with agencies, creators or digital media companies. The listing also sought knowledge of digital-media trends, creativity and organizational ability, and a willingness to relocate to the Wilmington area. These are details from the historical listing, not confirmation of a current opening.

How were campaigns using meme pages?
The hiring effort fit a broader attempt to reach audiences through online culture and social platforms. NPR reported in January 2024 on meme training for the South Carolina Young Democrats. The report described political memes as a way to spread information, attract followers, fundraise and signal an effort to reach young people. TechCrunch’s May 2024 report described the Biden campaign’s interest in working with internet content and meme pages.
Creator and digital communications strategist Annie Wu Henry told TechCrunch, “I do think that we can and should infuse relevant, trendy and fun moments into how we are communicating, especially on digital platforms.” She added that communicators should remain “strategic and intentional and mindful, even if it’s a meme.” The point is not that a meme replaces campaign messaging, but that cultural fluency and outreach can be part of how a campaign distributes it.

What do the Dark Brandon sales figures show?
Axios reported on August 4, 2023, that the Biden campaign said more than 54% of its store’s total revenue came from Dark Brandon-themed products. The campaign also attributed 44% of store orders and nearly 76% of clicks to its website to those products. These are campaign-reported merchandise figures, not independently audited results or measures of voter persuasion, youth engagement or electoral impact. Axios’s report concerns the commercial performance of campaign merchandise.

The listing documents a 2024 hiring effort. It does not establish that the position remains open or that the campaign has the same hiring need now. Treat it as a historical example of how a presidential campaign organized digital-media outreach, rather than as a current job opportunity.
