The trigger, according to Mashable’s September 26 report, was Colbert calling Trump “kind of boring” during a PBS special. On The Late Show, Colbert answered Trump’s post line by line.
What prompted Trump’s post?
Mashable’s account connects the exchange to Colbert’s remark about Trump during a PBS special Trump was watching. Colbert later explained the jab this way: “He’s clearly upset because I called him boring, and I called him boring because I knew it would upset him, which it did because he’s so predictable, which is ultimately what makes him…kind of boring.” The wording is quoted in Mashable’s report; it should not be treated as a checked transcript of the full broadcast.
How did Colbert respond?
According to Mashable, Colbert addressed Trump’s Truth Social post in a Late Show monologue, responding to it line by line. The report quotes Trump’s insult as “VERY BORING,” but does not provide the full post or a complete transcript of Colbert’s segment. The available account therefore establishes the shape of the response, not every line or the surrounding exchange.
What is established about the exchange?
- Mashable says Trump posted about Colbert on Truth Social on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.
- The report says the insult followed Colbert’s “kind of boring” comment during a PBS special.
- Colbert answered in a Late Show monologue that Mashable describes as a line-by-line response.
These details come from Mashable’s report, republished by Yahoo Entertainment on September 26, 2024: Mashable’s report on Yahoo Entertainment. The original Truth Social post and full Late Show video were not independently available in the reporting used here, so claims about the exact post wording beyond the quoted insult, or the full sequence of Colbert’s rebuttal, cannot be confirmed from that account alone.
