In an October 2025 interview, Samantha Armytage said she and Richard Lavender had tried to make their marriage work, but it did not work out and they moved on. She also described 2024 as a year marked by change and grief, including the death of her dog Banjo.
What Armytage said about the marriage
Speaking with Sarrah Le Marquand on the Stellar podcast, Armytage put the end of the relationship simply: “Look what I’ll say for my marriage, was that we gave it a go. It didn’t work out, and so we move on.” PerthNow published the interview account on 16 October 2025.
Her comments describe an effort to make the marriage work and its eventual end; they do not give a reason for the breakdown. Neither the reported interview nor the separation announcement establishes that the couple divorced legally.
Why she called 2024 a big year
Armytage said 2024 brought “a lot of change and a lot of grief,” beginning with the loss of her dog Banjo, whom she called her baby. She described that loss as an “enormous grief.” PerthNow also reported that she had undergone a hip replacement and said she felt better than ever after getting through the difficult period.

From the 2024 separation announcement to the 2025 interview
Armytage and Lavender announced their separation in December 2024. They had married in December 2020 at Lavender’s property in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. In her statement at the time, as reported by PerthNow, Armytage said: “All breakups are hard, but it’s somewhat lessened by the fact it’s amicable and we wish the best for each other.” That was her description of the split, not independent confirmation of the private terms of the separation.
The public discussion came later: PerthNow’s account of the Stellar podcast interview appeared in October 2025. 7NEWS also reported on Armytage’s comments that month, describing the interview as coming nearly 12 months after the separation announcement.
