At Taylor Swift’s February 2024 Eras Tour shows in Melbourne and Sydney, Sabrina Carpenter performed location-specific endings to her song “Nonsense.” PerthNow reported that the Melbourne outro included a spelled-out sexual reference and the Sydney version used a separate double entendre. Its report recorded both objections about children hearing the lyrics and praise for Carpenter’s wordplay—not evidence that concertgoers broadly were angry.
What did Sabrina Carpenter sing in Melbourne and Sydney?
Carpenter often adapted the outro to “Nonsense” to suit the city where she was performing. In a report published on 26 February 2024, PerthNow described two different endings at the Australian Eras Tour stops:

|---|---|---|
| Melbourne, February 2024 | A wordplay outro spelling “D-I-C-K” and ending with a reference to Melbourne. | PerthNow described a crowd of 96,000 at the show. |
| Sydney, 23 February 2024 | A separate sexual double entendre with a Sydney reference. | Swift’s first Sydney show was delayed by severe weather; Carpenter’s scheduled opening set was cancelled. |
PerthNow’s account is the source for the lyric descriptions and the Melbourne attendance figure. The transcriptions have not been independently authenticated here against performance recordings.
The figures are outlet-reported and come from different reports and contexts. ABC News reported a sell-out crowd of 81,000 for Swift’s weather-affected first Sydney show; that figure should not be treated as a directly comparable official total to PerthNow’s Melbourne number.

Why did some commenters object?
PerthNow relayed online comments from people who objected to the sexualized lyrics because children were in the audience. The same report also included commenters who praised the jokes as clever wordplay. The examples were anonymous social-media comments, not named interviews or a representative survey, so they show a split in the reactions reported by one outlet rather than a general verdict from fans.

Severe weather delayed Swift’s first Sydney concert on 23 February 2024 and led to the cancellation of Carpenter’s scheduled warm-up performance. Carpenter later joined Swift onstage for a duet. ABC News reported the delay, cancelled opening set and 81,000-strong sell-out crowd; TIME also recounted the cancellation and later duet. These events provide context for the Sydney concert, but they do not explain or verify the separate “Nonsense” outro controversy.

At the show, Swift acknowledged the forecast, saying, “We got a little bit of a weather situation where we might get some rain, but I’ve never known an Aussie crowd who has let that get in the way of having a good time,” as reported by ABC News.
